Getting around in Columbus and Central Ohio

Franklin County Engineer Dean C. Ringle made a presentation to The Greater Worthington Area REALTORS® Association Thursday about 'whats happening' in Central Ohio.  Perched at the tippy top of Franklin County many Worthington REALTORS® are often concerned more with Delaware County road projects than some more distant  Franklin County.

Ringle did a commendable job of presenting the region, Franklin County, Delaware County, Columbus and it's suburbs as well as ODOT. It sounds like Ringle and his Delaware County counterpart Chris E. Bauserman are in close contact.  Ringle talked about a "summit."  County engineers and their posses meeting up along with ODOT and other civic  leaders concerned with Central Ohioans 'getting around'.

Ringle's presentation was filled with fly overs, tunnels and roundabouts in Central Ohio.    Modern roundabouts, Dublin has three now. Other Central Ohio suburbs and Columbus will have to scramble to keep up.  Franklin County Engineer's Keeping You in the Loop: Modern Roundabout Q&A is good reading for inquiring minds.

Breaking tranportation news:  Columbus Mayor Coleman's State of the City Address covered on the TV news last night included news of a Columbus based airline... and downtown Columbus street cars.  Today's Dispatch article "Street Cars a Desire for Mayor" by  Jodi Andes   News of Columbus 'Skybus Airlines'  hits the Dispatch Business page and TV news.

An Aviation website  discusses Columbus' Skybus

"The top story in today's Columbus Dispatch Business section had news of a new LCC, Skybus Airlines, moving closer to starting up operations. The new airline has gained financing from several well-known organizations in the Columbus area, such as the Dispatch's owners, Wolfe Enterprises."

"The airline is shooting for a Fall 2006 date for their first flight. They plan to serve new destinations that are not currently served non-stop from Columbus. It is mentioned in the article, west coast cities are a high priority for Skybus."

" Analysts are skeptical about starting a brand new carrier in the current state of the airline industry."

Smokin...

Gahanna joins most of Central Ohio today in "banning smoking."

Read about it in the Columbus Dispatch

It's The Law - Gahanna Ohio

I showed a house Monday.  The elderly owner was there and smoking.  I came home complaining of my hair and clothes smelling of smoke.  I'm sure my client smelled of smoke too but for all I know she may be a smoker.... (deep voice.) Of course he has a right to smoke in his own residence...  I went out to "smoke" with a friend at the office yesterday even though I do not smoke. I would still take breaks with him even if he gave up smoking.   My parents smoked.  My husband smoked.

Smoke Free Ohio  Not a smoking ban?

"Some Ohioans call our law a smoking ban. This term is misleading because our law does not ban smoking. SmokeFreeOhio just asks smokers to step outside for a few minutes to protect everyones right to breathe clean indoor air."

Great American Smoke Out 2005 - Central Ohio.  Blow Bubbles not Smoke!

'The Other Paper' had a list of Central Ohio "Smoke-easies" a few weeks ago.  I thought I would find it online.  Googling "The Other Paper" and "smoking" I keep ending up in their personals. Oh my.
