Columbus Baseball stadium trivia

Gee a recent Columbus Dispatch commentary by reporter Ann Fisher is chock full of Columbus baseball and baseball stadium trivia, or some may not be so trivial.

Q. Who is Cooper Stadium named for?
A.  Harold M. Cooper

Q.  What was the name of the Columbus (really Franklin Township) baseball stadium in 1932?
A.   Red Bird Stadium

Q. What was the name of the Columbus Baseball stadium in 1955?
A. Jet Stadium

Q. When was the baseball stadium in Central Ohio  renamed Cooper Stadium?
A.  1984

Q.  Will there be something to honor Harold M. Cooper who will turn 85 on Valentines Day at the new Huntington Park when completed?
A.  Only time will tell

All Q and A from Fisher's   Columbus Dispatch Commentary - The real 'Coop' is worthy of recognition

Batter up! The  Columbus Clippers who are not hot dogs or weenies ...season starts soon:

First Game @ Indianapolis Indians April 5, 2007 - 2:00 PM  TODAY!
Home Opener against the Buffalo Bisons April 13, 2007 - 7:25 PM

.... this picture reminds me of Teresa Boardman a real estate agent in St. Paul Minnesota who is not a weenie or a hot dog.  Teresa started a website as a joke called the Real Estate Weenie.

It turned out to be an evil real estate weenie or so some thought.   The Real Estate Weenie became a scandal in mid March???  what's more American than "baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, Chevrolet....." Teresa has a dry sense of humor.... I guess the fear was that Teresa was starting a website to call people names like "Weenie" or "hot dog"....

Was it all a very long elaborate April Fools joke?

Wonder when the Columbus Clippers "dime a dog" night is.....

My May Real Living E-Newsletter is online now but I don't believe there is anything about baseball on it....the baseball or softball or whatever that is in the image below sure looks nice with theE-Newsletter masthead though!  I grabbed the graphic hoping I could just get the the baseball.  No such luck.  Then I'd have had to blog about the Columbus Clippers or Berliner Park softball fields anyway and I know virtually nothing about either so it is better if I just shamelessly pitch my E-Newsletter.

Oh my goodness... Thursday May 4, 2006 is Dog Lovers Night... the Clippers website has a picture of Jake the diamond dog!!

Thursday, May 4, 2006 @ 7:05 PM vs. Norfolk Tides

"Dog Lovers Night sponsored by Friends of The Shelter
Opportunity to adopt a dog a Gate #1 from 6 PM to 7 PM. Contact Susan Smith at szsmith@franklincountyohio.gov or call 462-4360 at the Franklin County Dog Shelter for more information on adopting a dog or for general admission tickets to support Dog Lovers Night and the Franklin County Dog Shelter. "

"Jake "The Diamond Dog" has long held the title of the best utility dog in baseball. On the field, Jake is a triple threat: He retrieves foul balls, performs batboy duties and brings the umpires refreshments. Come and enjoy the day the game goes to the dogs! "

Take me out to the ballgame...

Columbus Blog JasonPage.net reports...

"Baseball stadium to  offer double bacon cheeseburger served between  Krispy Kreme doughnut.  "

Luckily that baseball stadium is NOT in Columbus!

Columbus baseball fans are offered  the more traditional fare hot dogs, coney dogs, brats, hamburgers,  pizza,  fries, soft pretzels,  popcorn,  peanuts,  Cracker Jack and  ice cream are among  the foods offered at  Cooper Stadium.   Cheeseburgers are offered but there is no mention of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  Will the new 'Huntington Park' ball field carry on traditionally foodwise?

The Gateway Grizzlies (an Illinois team?)  Website Press release reads:

"The Grizzlies and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have teamed up to create Baseballs Best Burger. The burger, which was introduced at Gateways December 10th sale, consists of a thick and juicy burger topped with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon. The burger is then placed in between each side of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnut. "

Read the press release for the Grizzlies unique concessions offered in 2004 and 2005.

Coming soon... Huntington Park
