This is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese calendar. February 7, is the beginning of the Chinese New Year. I think it's appropriate to celebrate the Chinese New Year for the first couple of weeks of February.InfoPlease.com says of the Chinese calendar:
"According to legend, a god asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. When 12 came, he named a year after each animal, declaring that people born in that year would have some of that animal's personality."
