Gas prices

Jun. 24, 2008
Categorized in: Columbus Real Estate
Tagged with: central ohio, columbus, gas, hilliard

Reading a post on ActiveRain, a real estate network, from two months ago when gas was just $3.48 a gallon....

I wrote it so it is not a big surprise...   Gas Prices - " I'm mad as hell...." <--- link won't work... but I am trying to make it work...   April 24, 2008  back when gas was merely $3.48... Gas is now over $4.00 on the north side of Columbus (my world.)

Will higher gas prices keep Central Ohioans from moving out to outlying counties?

Does anyonw know why gas is usually less expensive in Hilliard and on the west side of Columbus?

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topic of gas prices, urban sprawl in Central Ohio, etc.  All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks. Copyright 2008 Discover Columbus and Maureen McCabe

National Association of Realtors

Realtors... the big R.

The DOJ (Department of Justice) had a lawsuit against NAR (National Association of Realtors) for years. CNN (is that Cable News Network?) Money says the DOJ lawsuit against NAR was filed in September 2005.

Settled Tuesday… breaking news…  I’d nearly forgot what it was about… It was about  IDX (internet data exchange?) and VOWs (virtual office websites?)

In the CNNMoney.com article Realtors settle case with U.S.

“Real estate agents were accused of illegally blocking posting of home listings and limiting competition from online brokers.”

I think by “Real estate agents” they are referring to NAR, a national trade organization.

It will be interesting to watch. It has to go to court. Then 60 days later, the world as we know it will change? Or it won’t.

CNN says

“The report found that more consumers use the Web when house hunting than rely on “For Sale” yard signs.”

Duh!

Search for Central Ohio homes…  somewhere here… there’s a link to the search for local homes.  I read the LA Times and other unlocal newspapers… then went to our own Columbus Dispatch to see what they have to say about it.

In today’s Columbus Dispatch News Briefs it says:

“The settlement, which requires court approval, opens the MLS databases to online and traditional agents.”

Also in today’s local news briefs… and certainly less dry and boring… news of Columbus Ohio based Victoria’s Secret… going after another company for using the word “sexy.”

“Victoria’s Secret appeals trademark ruling on ’sexy’ “

This was previously posted (mostly, a couple of small changes...) on ColumbusBestBlog.com  another Central Ohio blog I write.

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topic of national or local real estate. All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks. Copyright 2008 Discover Columbus and Maureen McCabe

Central Ohio Tea Party

May. 8, 2008
Categorized in: Best Food and Restaurant
I should have dedicated the little iced tea poll I did yesterday to home inspector Jimmy Braezele ... not familiar with Jimmy? That's because he's in Mississippi... although  due to the licenselessness  state of Ohio Home Inspector, Jimmy has threatened I mean offered to come do home inspections in Columbus Ohio.

In  What's Cooking America - Iced Tea History by Linda Stradley wrote:

"There are two traditional iced teas in the United States. The only variation between them is sugar.

Southerners swear by their traditional sweet ice tea and drink it by the gallons. In the South, ice tea is not just a summertime drink, it is served year round with most meals. When people order tea in a Southern restaurant, chances are they will get sweet ice tea.

Outside of the southern states, iced tea is served unsweetened or “black,” and most people have never even heard of sweet tea."

Columbus do you like "sweet tea" or ... what do you call iced tea that is not sweet?  Iced tea?  "unsweetened"?  black tea?

Vote for your tea choice if you are in Central Ohio... please resist the urge to vote if you are not in  Central Ohio...  maybe local restaurants know which is more popular in Columbus iced tea or "sweet tea."

Jimmy Breazele moderates a group called "Suthern Thangs" on ActiveRain.com a network for the real estate industry. Reading "Suthern Thangs" on ActiveRain.com made me think of tea and "sweet tea."

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topic of iced tea in Central Ohio. All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks. Copyright 2008 Discover Columbus and Maureen McCabe

March came in like a ....

Mar. 26, 2008
Categorized in: Time and Temperature

lion I can't remember Saturday March 1, 2008... do you?  Was it cold? Did March come in like a lion?  Or did March come in like a lamb?

I hope March came in like a lion...  I think it was cold... I showed homes the next day and it got warm and melted snow we had on the ground...

I remember the next Saturday... Saturday March 8, 2008.  We won't forget the blizzard of 2008 in Central Ohio soon.  Maybe since the snow was in the first ten days of the month that counts as March coming in like a lion.... what are the rules?

We officially had 20.4 inches of snow at Port Columbus, on March 8, 2008 breaking the long standing record from 1910 of 15.3 inches of snow.

We don't get snow like that usually... that was a once in a lifetime blizzard.

Mar. 8, 2008 - I've become a snow wimp....

I'm looking forward to spring...

This is severe weather awareness week in Ohio
