Columbus in the top five

Aug. 26, 2006
Categorized in: Odds and Ends

Sadly it is not the best list to be on.  According to Forbes.com Columbus is in the top five for "drunkest cities."

The top five are Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Columbus, Ohio; Bostin and Austin,Texas.

"Of course, just because a city ranks high on the list doesn't make it a den of debauchery. A top-drinking town could be populated by grandmas who imbibe a glass of wine every night to keep their heart healthy. And just because someone tips back a few beers doesn't make them irresponsible."

I heard it first from someone who works at the brewery...

Columbus Best Beer

Make your vote count at Ansheuser-Busch's  Original Beers site

How Ohio votes is once again important to the nation... Ohio voters will determine what specialty beer the Columbus Anheuser-Busch brewery will produce.  Or maybe the new beer is just going to be sold in Ohio?

"To view the Original Beers site, you must have Flash Player 7.0.19 or higher installed on your computer."

"You must be 21 or older and know your zip code to vote"  according to the Original Beer site.

Anheuser-Busch You need to be 21 to enter the beer pages here too,  the corporate website is beer, amusement parks and more.

Beverage World says:

"In a new twist on democracy, Anheuser-Busch is asking for Ohio voters to select the next specialty draught beer they brew in Columbus.... It's easier and far more entertaining than touch screens at your local precinct.

" Seems sleeping giant AB has gotten a wake-up call from the craft brewing movement, so in response, they are offering three up-and-coming candidates that sound fairly promising:

-- "Burnin' Helles," a bock style rich malty lager with German hop character with a higher than usual 7 percent alcohol by volume.

-- "Old Eye Popper" is a dunkel-style with German hops, caramel and chocolate malts, and campaigns with the promise to be both sweet and bitter, dark, malty and complex.

-- "Racer Snake Red" is an American-style amber that is both malty and hoppy. "

I can smell the Columbus Anheuser-Busch Brewery at home and office depending on how the wind blows.

Voting ends April 30, 2006.  Beer will be ready to consume responsibley at the end of June.
