Discover Columbus Disclaimer ... Disclosure

Jan. 30, 2008
Categorized in: Blogs

I used to use a long disclaimer on this blog... here's one from back in the dark ages...(February 2006 when this was Columbus Best Blog.)   I cobbled the disclaimer together from disclaimers on MLS and various websites:

"The information provided herein is supplied by several sources and is subject to change without notice. Columbus Best Blog does not guarantee or is any way responsible for its accuracy, and provides said information without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.  Entries on Columbus Best Blog represent the opinions and ideas of the author(s). They do not necessarily reflect the views of HER Real Living. Copyright ? 2006  Maureen McCabe & Columbus Best Blog All Rights Reserved. "

I've kinda sorta done a disclaimer on ColumbusBestBlog.com on my Home page... I say my opinions about gyros and Indian food do not represent the opinions of Real Living or HER Real Living on "gyros or Indian food..." or anything . Or maybe I need a disclosure on each and every entry on that blog.

The Real Estate blogging world was in a tizzy yesterday over a real estate blogger being sued for 25 million dollars.
Opera Tower, LLC & Tibor Hollo Sues Me for $25M from Lucas Lechuga a Miami Florida real estate agent blogger.

Blogger?  Aspiring blogger?  Does the prospect of being sued concern you?  Here's a poll... even if you aren't a real estate blogger, do you ever think about libel when blogging? Here's a poll on ActiveRain  Sue Who?

Sellsius° Real Estate blog wrote Did Real Estate Blogger Defame Miami Developer? A $25 Million Libel Lesson
Did you know "Dumb Ass" is not defamatory in California. Check out the link in the Sellsius° post:

California Court of Appeal: “Dumb Ass” is not a defamatory term

Maybe that's why Californians feel so comfortable commenting on Discover Columbus and I am paraphrasing here...
"Hey Dumb Ass if you like Columbus Mexican restaurants you have no taste in Mexican food."   Looking for a free legal opinion here... Is "Dumb Ass" defamatory in Ohio?  On my other blog I've heard from east coast people that Columbus Ohio pizza sucks... but no "Dumb Ass" comments about pizza yet... I wonder whether "Dumb Ass"  is legally defamatory in NY, MA, CT, NH, PA etc.  Why is Mexican food so divisive? I have never been challenged on the Indian Restaurant posts here...

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topics of disclaimers, disclosures, defamation and just about anything thats starts with a d, except calling me a "Dumb Ass" I am tiring of that.  Of course this blog is my opinion...  All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks.

This Blog is Temporarily Closed

This blog is temporarily closed. Until RealTown takes care of problems I am not going to post anything here. Please visit my http://ColumbusBestBlog.com My blog may be too large for RealTown. I have shut down comments and hid the comments. Comments are unhidden and open. Comments are supposed to be set that ...

Discover Columbus -

People who weren't keeping up with their readers are emailing me asking why the blog was closed. Or in some cases why the blog is open again.

The entry from October 5 is a normal entry (not a sticky entry on the top of each page of the blog... a RealTown Blog feature... ) and it is back on October 5 in this blog, holding it's place in the history of this blog.

RealTown has made some changes. Many are positive. There is traffic from Google now! Yippeee!

Before this all started! InIf you are reading Discover Columbus I was going to strip out all the extras in the sidebar at first, or actually just go with the plain vanilla RealTown Blog default template because that was what I thought they were telling me my choice was, "use our default template for traffic" or keep your chosen template with the changes you have made but you won't get traffic. It turned out after conversation (most bloggers were not willing to go plain vanilla after all their work customizing their blogs) that it was not a choice between a blog with widgets, photos, headers and a blog with traffic. The change in url was going to bring traffic to all RealTown Blogs default template or not.

And of course the change has brought traffic to the blog. I assume all RealTown Blogs are experiencing Google being able to find the URL and deliver traffic to the blog. My blog had lots of traffic even when it was shut down, no comments allowed, a lot of it was from Google. Before the change in urls there was barely any traffic from Google.

Of course changing the URL caused problems. The search on my blog was going to RealTown's tag page not to my blog. I believe I have corrected that.

RealTown made some changes in the dashboard that helped with comments.

I think my blog has the largest number of entries of all the RealTown Blogs. I have always thought the RealTown blogs are slow and cumbersome. There are still frustrations. The copyright line at the bottom of my blog that is supposed to be automatically generated is not. There have been question marks in front of the words in the side bar a couple of times. Support has corrected that twice. I am not sure if it is something I am doing when I change things in my template (sidebar... like correcting the Google search so it searches my blog not RealTown, fixing widgets that have gone awry.) I get red x's when I put pictures in entries...

You get what you pay for.

No you did not imagine it. Discover Columbus was closed for about a week... maybe 10 days because of problems and spam. There was a sticky entry at the top of each page saying the blog was temporarily closed, redirecting traffic to ColumbusBestBlog.com (above is what it looks like in my reader...) That entry is back on October 5, 2007 but it is not as written originally since I opened comments before I started putting any content on the blog so I could work on the comments and spam.
