A Canadiaon real estate broker recently mentioned to her peers (US and Canadian real estate licensees) "never aggravate a pig; the pig likes it; you'll just get dirty rolling in the mud with him."
I think the expression I've heard here was slightly different but I always wondered why does the pig like it? I could not find the phrase on Google or phrase websites...
I did find the phrase "Pig in a poke" in a United Kingdom phrase dictionary, The Phrase Finder.
Pig in a poke... "The advice being given is 'don't buy a pig until you have seen it'. This is enshrined in British commercial law as 'caveat emptor' - Latin for 'let the buyer beware'. This remains the guiding principle of commerce in many countries and, in essence, supports the view that if you buy something you take responsibility to make sure it is what you intended to buy."
This is a UK site .... And I certainly am not giving anyone legal advice but caveat emptor means buyer beware here too. Real estate is local but somethings don't change... this is a guiding principle of commerce here too.
So are you going to look up the phrase "When Pigs Fly"? Where'd you get those pigs?
>Bonnie,
Are you suggesting that I stole those pigs? Those are my fully licensed pigs . And no one better steal these pigs or any of my content... copyright that's what brought up wrestling with pigs.
There's an article in the February 2006 "In Contract Magazine, the official publication of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®" about Caveat Emptor. I'd give you a link to the online publication but the board site still has the January 2006 In Contract Magazine online, today. Written by Alexander M. Andrews Esq. and Matthew C. Krecji Esq. of Ulmer and Berne LLP, Attorneys at Law, Columbus Ohio the Article is titled Let the Buyer Beware! Is Caveat Emptor Alive and Well? There is no mention of buying a pig in a poke but the article does include the story of a "bezar stone" which is a goats gallstone - early 17th century in England. The Ohio Supreme Court adopted caveat emptor in the 1950's according to the article and reaffirned it in 1988 I will link to this article when it becomes available online. Good stuff. Sellers and Buyers obligations... it says in conclusion "So whether your are selling a goat's gallstone or a home, err on the side of caution. Disclose as much as you know to the potential buyer. This may avoid a lawsuit down the road."
I have the dreaded red x's on my spot in places. Someone with RealTown blogs wrote me to re-upload two of the graphics on my blog. One was a piece of cake, I could not find the other so I have a red X where there was a graph. There are other red x's I've noticed and some weirdness in the text. Like ®'s have become craziness. RT Blogs have upgraded a bunch of things recently.... Great improvements but I had to come back to make sure my flying pigs were still OK. I am relieved. I can sleep better at night now that I have located them.
