Great Cow

dairy cow

I have avoided the Ohio raw milk controversy

I am not a milk drinker... I like yogurt and cheese...I love ice cream and frozen yogurt.  Cows...Thank you very much for your part in those!

I love the cow image on Blogging Ohio's Raw Milk Raw Danger or Raw Deal? about Marion Ohio farmers being prohibited from selling raw milk... I did not even gag much reading Tom Barlow's take on the raw milk controversy when he wrote:

"I hope the ODA doesn't find out my uncle used to let me drink milk still warm from the udder as a child when I 'helped' him milk."

Side note... the Rooster Song? performed at the Dublin Irish Festival 2006 by 'Brigid's Cross'  a celtic folk rock trio ... and a relative??? someone's Dad?  Someone's Father-in-law?   A great performer ... from some place further north?  Strongsville?  I think of his "rooster" perfomance  when I eat yogurt now.  Grab  your guitar and sing along.... Lyrics and chords compliments of Jake Thackery on  A Berkley CA education website :

"The Rooster Song

            C                            G
We had some chickens, no eggs would they lay.
            G7                           C
We had some chickens, no eggs would they lay.
               C                 G
My wife said, "Honey, this isn't funny, we're losing money."
                   C
No eggs would they lay.
          C                     G
One day a rooster came into our yard
                G7                       C
And caught them chickens right off their guard.
               F                       C
They're laying eggs now just like they used-ter
                G                     C
Ever since that rooster came into our yard."

Back to raw milk... my Grandpa was a dairy farmer.  We drank milk that was not something-or- otherized at the farm when I was a kid.  Pasteurized but not homogenized???  OR Vice versa?  They put the milk in a big stainless steel thing in the "milk house" off the barn... I think that cooled it off quickly... ?  I am not sure if what we drank at the farm was raw milk but whatever it was it made me want to gag.   I liked my milk... or tolerated milk better from a carton, bottle, jug in the refrigerator.  I liked to play in the cow barn during milking but the bovineness of the cows grossed me out.  I like cartoon cows better than I like real cows up close and personal.  Cows are better at a distance.  Cows are fine at the side of the road.  Especially if they are down wind from me. More of "The Rooster Sing"

"We had a cow-wow, no milk would she give.
         G7                         C
We had a cow-wow, no milk would she give.
               C                 G
My wife said, "Honey, this isn't funny, we're losing money."
                  C
No milk would she give.
          C                     G
One day a rooster came into our yard

                G7                    C
And caught that cow-wow right off her guard.
             F                 C
She's giving eggnog in milk containers
                G                     C
Ever since that rooster came into our yard."

Gas prices have slipped back down a bit, I saw $2.59 a gallon yesterday  but.... wouldn't this be a great way to deal with gas supply?  More of "The Rooster Song"....

    C                         G
"We had a gas pump, no gas would it give.
         G7                        C
We had a gas pump, no gas would it give.
               C                 G
My wife said, "Honey, this isn't funny, we're losing money."
                C
No gas would it give.
             C                     G
One day that rooster came into our yard
                G7                     C
And caught that gas pump right off its guard.
            F                      C
It's giving shell gas just like it used-ter
                G                     C
Ever since that rooster came into our yard."

I love the new look. Your search sticky isn't elongated anymore. And the morphing house/lady is great at the bottom so one doesn't get dizzy.

I, too, had the pleasure of close and personal with the great bovines as a kid. I didn't mind the boviness, even did the milking myself. Made my hands sore! However, the milk was placed in a "separator" which skimmed off the heaviest of the cream. What was left as milk was still full of more cream than any whole milk you find in the store. Grandma made her own butter with the cream and the milk went to the "factory" or whereever the big truck took it! At that time the milk was stored in great (new then and antique now) milk cans awaiting their ride in the truck. I, too, found even the separated raw milk bit rich for my tastes, hot or cold. I doubt your family did either homogenizing or pasteurizing. It probably was separated. I think the pasteurizing is high heat and the homogenizing is an additive. Both done professionally. We'll have to Google it.

Bonnie... I don't know for sure but I assume it is Bonnie since I asked just Bonnie and Leanne to look at my new template. The Search is a different search sticky. I actually had the original with just one search on it.  This is the new and improved search with Search, Search New, Search Real Deals, Search Open Houses.... seems like there is more.  Cows.... milk you are probably right the milk on my Grandpa's farm was just separated not homogenized or pastuerized.  So does that mean I drank raw milk and lived to tell of it? I doubt I ever drank milk while it was still warm from the cow. YUCK.... We drank skim milk at home when I was a kid... so whole milk at school made me gag.  Wholer milk at the farm.............  Thanks for the comment Maureen

Today we're serving milk. Care for a glass?  It is the non raw variety because as I understand it I can not buy raw milk.  I read something about this, a farmer (cow owner)  could / would sell shares of the cow, so as part owner you can have the milk.???  Something like that.   Thanks for the comment anonymous.   Sunday virtual champagne... I am not sure whether I can find virtual caviar on short notice.    Bonnie Erickson had spilled milk on her Real Estate Snippets blog a week or so ago.  I remember seeing the graphic on her site and another. .
