I checked out your open house list. Not only is Columbus a great place for singles but the housing is very affordable. You must be able to buy a mansion for $200,000! Is the average income also less or does Columbus just luck out with great places to buy inexpensively? It's been many long years since I saw a townhouse listed for $54,000 in the Twin Cities. You can buy an efficiency or 1 bedroom condo for right around $100,000, but not much cheapter than that. And that depends on neighborhood!
The average price for a condo in our MLS now is $182,531 so the condo being held open that you noticed is priced considerably lower..than an average Central Ohio condominium. I am sure it is a great property but it may not be as nice as many condos on the market in Central Ohio. The highest priced condo sold year to date was priced at $1,250,000, there is a wide range of housing in our market.
You can not buy a mansion for $200K in the city of Columbus or even out in the far, far rural areas that our MLS serves from my experience.. but I'd love to stumble over a mansion for $200K for any of my clients!!
The average local household income according to the CNN Money magazine article is in the low $50's, considerably lower than many large cities, they looked at. Looking up the stats in the Census Bureau it is even lower but that may be a City of Columbus figure where the Best City lists in the magazines, CNN Money, the Forbes list for best cites for singles look at a Columbus metropolitan area figure?
