Jan. 31, 2008 - Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit - February 2008

Hares sculpture at Ballantrae

It's February already!

Time to say "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit for good luck.

It is an old tradition on this blog.

it is an even older superstition that you can get good luck by saying "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit" the first thing each month.

This is of course the sculpture of the dancing hares at Ballantrae in Dublin.

Tomorrow is Groundhogs Day of course.  Will Buckeye Chuck the official Ohio groundhog see his shadow?  If he sees his shadow it's 6 more weeks of winter.  No shadow he can come out of his den because we are going to have an early spring.

Jan. 31, 2008 - Columbus - St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

It's not even February yet... why worry about St. Patrick's Day in January?   "Calendar throws St. Patrick's Day for loop"  by  Meredith Heagney of The Columbus Dispatch... brings up nasty news for some people who celebrate everything Irish... St. Pat's Day is the Monday before Easter and the Columbus Catholic Diocese has asked Central Ohio Catholics to not celebrate.  There will be no traditional mass in downtown Columbus on St. Patrick's Day.

The Columbus Bishop asked the Shamrock Club to move the local celebrations up but  'No can do', the Columbus Parade and the Irish Family Reunion at Vet's Memorial will be on Monday March 17, 2008.

The Shamrock Club
site says of the Columbus St. Patrick's Day Parade:

"The Parade will form at Nationwide Blvd. and John H. McConnell Blvd., between 10:30am and 11am. It will step off 11:45am and proceed East on Nationwide Blvd. to High St., South on High St. to Broad St., West on Broad St. to Veteran's Memorial, where the Parade will disband at the direction of the Parade Marshals and the Shamrock Club's Annual Irish Family Reunion will begin."

Heagney wrote in the Columbus Dispatch:
"The good news for all involved is that St. Patrick's Day doesn't fall during Holy Week often. It last happened in 1940, when the Shamrock Club canceled the Mass and parade according to the wishes of then-Bishop James J. Hartley."

Some US Cities are holding their St. Patrick's Day parades on March 17, 2008, others have moved parades and celebrations up...

I think Dublin Ohio  always does their parade on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day.  The Dublin Ohio St. Patrick's Day parade is Saturday March 15, 2008 at 11:00 AM.

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topic of St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Central Ohio. All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks.

Jan. 30, 2008 - Discover Columbus Disclaimer ... Disclosure

I used to use a long disclaimer on this blog... here's one from back in the dark ages...(February 2006 when this was Columbus Best Blog.)   I cobbled the disclaimer together from disclaimers on MLS and various websites:

"The information provided herein is supplied by several sources and is subject to change without notice. Columbus Best Blog does not guarantee or is any way responsible for its accuracy, and provides said information without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.  Entries on Columbus Best Blog represent the opinions and ideas of the author(s). They do not necessarily reflect the views of HER Real Living. Copyright ? 2006  Maureen McCabe & Columbus Best Blog All Rights Reserved. "

I've kinda sorta done a disclaimer on ColumbusBestBlog.com on my Home page... I say my opinions about gyros and Indian food do not represent the opinions of Real Living or HER Real Living on "gyros or Indian food..." or anything . Or maybe I need a disclosure on each and every entry on that blog.

The Real Estate blogging world was in a tizzy yesterday over a real estate blogger being sued for 25 million dollars.
Opera Tower, LLC & Tibor Hollo Sues Me for $25M from Lucas Lechuga a Miami Florida real estate agent blogger.

Blogger?  Aspiring blogger?  Does the prospect of being sued concern you?  Here's a poll... even if you aren't a real estate blogger, do you ever think about libel when blogging? Here's a poll on ActiveRain  Sue Who?

Sellsius° Real Estate blog wrote Did Real Estate Blogger Defame Miami Developer? A $25 Million Libel Lesson
Did you know "Dumb Ass" is not defamatory in California. Check out the link in the Sellsius° post:

California Court of Appeal: “Dumb Ass” is not a defamatory term

Maybe that's why Californians feel so comfortable commenting on Discover Columbus and I am paraphrasing here...
"Hey Dumb Ass if you like Columbus Mexican restaurants you have no taste in Mexican food."   Looking for a free legal opinion here... Is "Dumb Ass" defamatory in Ohio?  On my other blog I've heard from east coast people that Columbus Ohio pizza sucks... but no "Dumb Ass" comments about pizza yet... I wonder whether "Dumb Ass"  is legally defamatory in NY, MA, CT, NH, PA etc.  Why is Mexican food so divisive? I have never been challenged on the Indian Restaurant posts here...

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topics of disclaimers, disclosures, defamation and just about anything thats starts with a d, except calling me a "Dumb Ass" I am tiring of that.  Of course this blog is my opinion...  All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks.

Jan. 28, 2008 - Welcome to MaureenMcCabe.com

My website is MaureenMcCabe.com  It's just a Real Living website... nothin fancy. On my website are a list of all current Real Living HER open houses.  There are 90 plus on the list for this week.  Super Bowl Sunday?

Last weekend about 280 open houses were listed on the Real Living website and thus my website.  The 280 included my 2 - 4 , Sunday January 27, 2008 Open House  in the Village of Minerva Park.  Minerva Park is inside 270 on the Northeast side.

While on my way to my open house I picked up a call yesterday that said:

“uh Hi Maureen my name is Jason I’m uh at XXX S. Wall St. with some friends of mine.  We were uh taking a look at the… we  wanted to go through the open house at the condo here at  uh Brewers Gate and uh  we’re here, it’s about 1:40  and uh there’s no one here, the door is not uh open uh for the unit.  So if you could please give me a call back.  We would love to take a look at this unit.

uh the number is 614-XXX-XXX, XXX-XXXX again the name is Jason. Thank you. “

Sent at 1:46 PM

…hmmm downtown at someone's open house but for some reason he thinks I ought to be there.  Poor confused Jason.  Jason is NOT my client.  The listing he is calling on is NOT my listing…

That happens occasionally…

After putting up signs at my open house, opening the door, turning on lights, I tried to find someone via phone to look at the open house list online for the numbers that Jason was obviously oblivious to… no luck finding someone who could look at it online…  Before calling Jason back to try to help him I worked with  the first couple who I arrived at my open house…

Then I returned Jason’s call and tried to tell him he’d contacted the wrong person...  Jason on the phone was not as uh polite… as his voicemail.

Jason never waivered in his belief that I was supposed to be in the Brewery District, so he and his friends could get into that condo.  He was reading “presented by” on my website so I ought to be there… at that open house...

I got the impression Jason was looking at my website on mobile device… maybe it was not there in the way he was looking at it.  He was on my website, and he is welcome to be on my website, but all 280 plus Real Living HER open houses Sunday were "presented by" me on my website.  Go to another Real Living HER agent's website and all 280+ open houses will be presented by that agent....

If Jasone needed to contact someone about the listing agent was right below my name:

Property listing courtesy of:  Real Living HER (Metro Office)
Office: 614-221-7400
Fax: 614-220-4350

Listing Agent Name
Direct: (614) XXX-XXXX
Fax: (614)XXX-XXXX

Jason said no there was no contact info there.  No link to click to the open house. OK. (?)

There is a link to the open house list which would also have the contact info for the listing agent and whomever is hosting the Open House.  If you click on the open house link it will take you to a list of open houses with WHO the listing agent is and WHO is hosting the open house with all the contact info you need, to contact someone who… uh cares.

I'd love to hear from you if you have a comment on the topic of looking at listings online or open houses. All comments are moderated so you will not see your comment immediately. Thanks.
