Feb. 27, 2006 - Lundi Gras

Today is Lundi Gras   Tomorrow is Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday.

Does 'Gras' means fat in French?

Central Ohio's  Best Mardi Gras party is at the HER Real Living's Worthington office.

Between having an agent who was born and raised in Louisiana and a manager who loves New Orleans a Mardi Gras Party is a given at HER Real Living Worthington.  Hurricane Punch, beads, masks, great music and lots of good food.....

By Invitation only this exclusive party will feature past royalty.  A new King and Queen will be crowned. We call the male ruler  King rather than "Rex"

This is Columbus Ohio not NOLA.

Reigning in 2005 were Herb Schupp and Patsy Schmidt.   Previous royalty includes Betsy Bronder (Betsy Fry when she ruled), Babs Hill, Tom Holcombe, Bettsy Jack, Eric Eckert, Deb Horstman, Paul Bean and George Van Lent.  Our first King Bruce Printz is the spouse of staff member Deb Printz.

Happy Lundi Gras!  Happy Mardi Gras too... I think I am going to be too busy to blog tomorrow.........

Feb. 26, 2006 - "A pig in a poke"

A Canadiaon real estate broker recently mentioned to her peers (US and Canadian real estate licensees) "never aggravate a pig; the pig likes it; you'll just get dirty rolling in the mud with him."

I think the expression I've heard here was slightly different but I always wondered why does the pig like it?  I could not find the phrase on Google or  phrase websites...

I did find the phrase "Pig in a poke"  in a United Kingdom phrase dictionary,   The Phrase Finder.

Pig in a poke...  "The advice being given is 'don't buy a pig until you have seen it'. This is enshrined in British commercial law as 'caveat emptor' - Latin for 'let the buyer beware'. This remains the guiding principle of  commerce in many countries and, in essence, supports the view that if you buy something you take responsibility to make sure it is what you intended to buy."

This is a UK site ....  And I certainly am not giving anyone legal advice but caveat emptor means buyer beware here too.  Real estate is local but somethings don't change... this is a guiding principle of commerce here too.

In Real Living's Glossary  caveat emptor is not there nor "a pig in a poke"  but  Merriam Websters says of caveat emptor that it mean "let the buyer beware"

Did you know  "don't let the cat out of the bag"  is related to a "Pig in a poke"?

Feb. 26, 2006 - Columbus Sales Up - Inventory Up

Columbus Business First reports from information provided by the Columbus Board of REALTORS®

"Columbus home sales start '06 with uptick"

"Despite fears that rising interest rates would dampen the housing market, sales of existing houses in Central Ohio posted a 7.5 percent climb in January, the Columbus Board of Realtors reports.

Sales of single-family houses and condominiums in the region rose to 1,346 last month from 1,252 a year earlier.

But the rising sales came against a backdrop of more houses for sale in the Columbus area. The board of realty agents said more than 14,500 houses are on the market -- 22 percent more than a year ago. "

That's a lot of inventory.
