Columbus Veterans Day Trash Pick UP

There is / was trash pick up in Columbus Ohio today! I should have posted a link to the 2007 chart much earlier in the year huh? (a link to the schedule is posted below.) One of the most popular ever entries on Discover Columbus is Feb. 21, 2006 - Color Coded Trash There is a link there to the 2006 schedule or was.... when I posted that entry. You can get to the info for the 2007 schedule via the link... anyway.

Why is that post so popular? I like to think because it is clever, funny... good reading but it may just be that trash pick up day is important to everyone who lives in Columbus. Trash pickup is a little more complicated (in a fun way) than the suburbs of Columbus where if the holiday falls on a trash day the trash pick up moves back a day. If you live in the city of Columbus (regardless of school district and mailing address) you are in a color coded trash area. A four letter word colored trash area.

Trash in Columbus Ohio is a holiday event and very colorful.

Over the weekend I had traffic on Discover Columbus with searches about trash pick up... I would assume it was from people in the PINK area of Columbus... but peoople in the RUBY area will be wondering later today or lying in bed on Tuesday morning whether Veterans Day moved their pick up back by a day...it did not... later in the week people in the GOLD area will wonder if their trash day moved back a day because of Veterans Day. It did not. After next weekend (the Ohio -Michigan game is always on a Saturday so although it is almost a holiday in Central Ohio, it never has an effect on the trash schedule... well PAST riots with burning trash dumpsters are a whole nother mattter...) After next weekend people who live in the NAVY area will say to themselves... Did Veterans Days observance on Monday November 12, 2007 move my trash pick up back? It did not.

I think Veterans Day will confuse many. No mail. Many government employees in Central Ohio had the day off. The Veteran's Day parade in Columbus was last week... It's going to be confusing for some Columbusites.

The 2007 Collection Schedule says:

"NOTE: Your collection day is not affected by Good Friday or Veteran's Day holidays."

It also says:

"If you have questions regarding your collection day, please call your collection color hotline, 645-[COLOR]. Example: 645-NAVY (6289)"

Here's a note that should be of interest for those of us who live in NAVY...

* For NAVY collection areas, a collection will be made on Monday, December 24, 2007 and again on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.
"

The 2007 Holidays that changed the trash collection schedule were:

New Year's Day

Martin Luther King Day

Presidents Day

Memorial Day

Independence Day

Labor Day

Columbus Day

Thanksgiving Day

Christmas Day

2008 same holiday? I have NOT seen a 2008 schedule yet but I vow to post it earlier in the year... for now those in NAVY know that we have a January 2, 2008 trash pick up...
