Apr. 3, 2007 - Columbus Crew & more....

College basketball on Discover Columbus on Monday, major league baseball on Columbus Best Blog the same day...  Major league soccer on Wednesday... you'd almost think I am a sports fan.

The Columbus Crew's home opener is Saturday April 7, 2007

The Ohio Historical Center has  Exhibit: Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers running from February 08, 2007 thru April 22, 2007.   

It's a  traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution "celebrating athletic accomplishments and amazing events through text, photographs and artifacts. It provides an examination of the barriers that have been shattered by sportsmen and women." according to the write up at Experience Columbus  

The exhibit was running back in mid March when the NCAA basketball tournament was in town at the Arena .  Jodi Andes'  article in the Saturday Columbus Dispatch reminded me of kids on summer break....whining ....  There's nothing to do.  "So what else have you got?"  Visitors breaking at the NCCA play offs asked according to the Dispatch article.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium? was suggested in the Dispatch article the reply was "too cold"

The Frannklin Park Conservatory ?

The Art Museum?

COSI?

The North Market?

The Ohio Historical Center and Ohio Village?

The Ohio State University?

The Columbus Dispatch article said Cleveland has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Does everyone really go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when they are in Cleveland for a sports event?  We have a lot of museums in Columbus if we renamed Center of Science and Industry to something catchy? Science Rocks?   

Of course it was St. Patrick's Day weekend and everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day... as the Columbus Dispatch said there was plenty to do both downtown Columbus and in Dublin... The parade was cold.  My cheeks were red for hours after the parade in Dublin.  There were daylong festivities in Dublin and at Vets Memorial.

In addition to The Ohio Historical Center's  Exhibit: Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers a second exhibit at the Ohio Historical Center might have been to some sports fan's taste:

Exhibit  White Castle: The History You Crave

Experience Columbus description  of the exhibit says: "Learn the history of Ohio-based White Castle restaurants, the first fast-food chain in America. The exhibit features a replica store front with artifacts, such as vintage dishes, menus, signs and packaging."

"The cure for there's nothing to do..." or "So what else have you got?"  may be   Experience Columbus.
