In case you were wondering.... Presidents Day is a Columbus trash holiday... Presidents Day is the first holiday on the trash schedule since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January. Next up is Memorial Day.... at the end of May.
There is no trash pick up in the City of Columbus on Monday, Presidents Day...
NAVY area (my neck of the woods) trash pick up moves from Thursday to Friday for the next few months.
The City of Columbus site says:
"To find your collection color, call the 3-1-1 Call Center at 645-3111 (TTY 645-6507)
There are no collections on holidays observed by the City of Columbus. Your collection day changes after each observed holiday.
If you have questions regarding your collection day, please call your collection color hotline, 645-[COLOR]. Example: 645-NAVY (6289).
NOTE:Your collection day is not affected by Good Friday or Veteran's Day holidays."

Earlier today, Valentine's Day I looked at the neighbors house and thought they were confused. They had their trash out a day early... then I noticed another and another... I thought it was a chain reaction... You know how that can happen... or maybe not...
You are supposed to have your trash out by 6:00 AM according to the recording on 645-NAVY... They (the Columbus Refuse Division) often are here before 8 AM but luckily not on Valentines Day....
At some point I realized that it was Thursday not Wednesday and it was not all the neighbors who were confused... I called 645-NAVY thinking it was Wednesday but something when the recorded voice said "Your current collection day is Thursday" clicked...
Valentine's Day was not a Trash Pick Up Holiday in Columbus but Monday, President's Day is.

We had a big snow storm in Columbus on Valentine's Day 2007 as I recall. It was a higher level snow emergency in Delaware County ... restaurants and stores closed... than in Franklin County but some Franklin County businesses still closed. We were trying to go out to eat... someplace where we did not need reservations and went over to Clevland Ave. to Yannis but it was closed. Came back closer to home and drove through the Polaris area where many businesses were closed but restaurant parking lots were packed... we ate at Hoggy's. I can't help myself I love Hoggy's...
Many Central Ohio schools were closed on Valentines Day 2007, the kids got the day off to play in the snow.
Columbus Valentine's Day is a big day to go out for a romantic meal in Central Ohio... some couples go out to celebrate Valentine's Day on the 13th of February to beat the rush... I was trying to find a list of restaurants for Valentine's Day in Central Ohio... I can't find anything online in the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus Alive, The Other Paper... This Week, etc. but you can tell it's an election year...
Romantic places out in the suburbs? Worthington Inn... Refectory... Mitchell's Steakhouse at Polaris, Ruth Chris at Crosswoods, The Columbus Fish Market... at Crosswoods or in Grandview...not sure how romantic but the food is good and the lights are dim. Lots more choices if you want to go downtown...

Monday is a holiday... there is no trash pick up on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and our trash pick up day goes back a day. The Navy area (the north side) goes back to Thursday this week.
The Columbus Trash Collection chart (more properly called the "2008 Refuse Collection Schedule") is colorful this year... doesn't just say Navy, Gold, Ruby, Pink... what is the 5th? It shows the colors...
Next up? Presidents Day... Remember these words of wisdom ..."Your collection day is not affected by Good Friday or Veteran's Day holidays."
