As I recently dealt with a "coming up on the teen years, end of the school year, struggling for her independence, I think I should test my Dad until I wear on his last nerve" issues with my daughter Hanna, I decided that reading her an excerpt from a book I studied a few years ago, Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements might just help. The Four Agreements are as follows:
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don't Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don't Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
After passionately reading these to Hanna she batted her Hazel eyes and said "Wow Dad those are great. It is so nice that i have a Dad that knows such cool stuff and chooses to be such a wonderful role model". After drastically reducing the punishment I was going to give her, I realized that she will soon be in the sales industry. Watch out!
Sent to me recently by Steven Poscente, National Training Director/Master Trainer with The Floyd Wickman Team. Over the last 10 years I have taken 3 of Steven's classes (each one full day every week for 8-10 weeks), and those classes and him have made a significant impact on my real estate career. If you are ever looking for an awesome trainer/motivator with a top notch company please send Steven an e-mail at Steve@FloydWickman.com.

This was in a recent newsletter from one of my all time, favorite real estate coaches Floyd Wickman. This not only pertains to real estate agents but to everyone who wants to make something of themselves.
Great RESULTS are the sum of small things done well, repeatedly.
Too many people are looking for that magic pill, or that one big thing. If I were to offer you a penny or a million dollars, which would you choose? If you chose the million--welcome to the majority. But consider if I were to make it a condition that you would not get either for 30 days; during which time, I would double the value of the penny every day. At the end of the month, the penny would be worth $5,368,709.12! You would have turned down over $4 million dollars! Those small things add up when you multiply your efforts.
I believe the right person, doing the right things well, often enough, guarantee great results. Assuming you are the right person, and you know how to do the right things well, the big question is: are you doing the "small things" often enough?

I am always trying to keep myself up to date on the real estate market and to further my education. One of the things I did when I was young that I have always regretted was to not to finish my college education. (true love got in my way!) I am working on that now, slowly. by taking college courses (granted only 1 or 2 a semester) to earn that degree. In between taking these courses I also am taking continuing education classes in order to keep my real estate license current. (24 hours every 2 years),. taking classes to earn those letters behind my name on my business card....ABR, e-PRO, GRI, SRES. I am currently working toward the CRS designation (I have one more 2-day class and I will have completed this!). Each one of these designations has made me a better REALTOR®.
The classes that are the most fun to take are the motivational classes. I started one today, that is not only motivational but geared to help REALTORS® get "back to the basics" of servicing our customers and clients. An awesome class with and awesome trainer (Steve Poscente). The class is a Floyd Wickman Starmaker class, formerly Sweathogs. I had taken the original Sweathogs class (with Steve as trainer) about 10 years ago. I also took the updated Starmaker class about 4-5 years ago. And I am excited about starting the class again. Not just for the motivation that Steve provides but mainly for the help in getting back to what is most impotrant...YOU, my clients (past, present and future), my customers, my friends. I will be going once a week for 7 weeks for 6.5 hours a day. It's an intense and driven class, but I trust that as before it will give me the knowledge and motivation to move forward in this business that I love so much to bigger and better things!

Strength

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment
If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

...Then You Are Probably The Family Dog!
