Long Term Solution

Posted by Anonymous at 6:58 PM, Aug. 31, 2005

Want to make a difference - in the long run-

"The New Orleans flood appears to me to be from the Lake in the north - down through the city to the south, and between the two canals (one on the west, the other east. So a logical solution could be to make this entire area a dry version of Venice. In other words, if there are 1,000 homes - or 10,000 homes in that section - have the finished product end up with an equal number of housing units - or ten times the number of housing units.

High-rise condo type towers, built correctly (great foundations, etc.), interspersed with park areas (which become flood channels the next time the lake leaks) and so on.
Since the entire area there is already trashed - use eminent domain to acquire the entire area described BUT with a truly fair twist.
Instead of just Taking all the land - the jurisdiction MUST award each current property owner a "Tenant in Common" legal interest in the giant parcel AND a housing unit in one of the towers. (c) Dan Wild 2005

By using towers the end result could be twice (or ten times or more) dwelling units. The sales or rentals of the extra units could benefit both the developers / investors AND the current crop of displaced residents."

IDEA FOR HOUSING SHORTAGE

Posted by Anonymous at 3:11 PM, Sep. 1, 2005

Maybe one of NAR's reps in Washington can ask if the government can open back up some of the closed military bases in the South to house the refugees. Call on Congressman as well as the Pentagon and White House.
