Bouncing Back In A Most Positive Way

Posted at 12:52 PM, Feb. 22, 2006

The following e-mail from Dean Graham reminds me of so many who have forged ahead and are stronger for what they have been through and will never forget those who cared.....

Hello Ms. Hopkins, my name is Dean Graham and I have recently evacuated to Tampa from Gulfport Ms. I have been working in the mortgage business for 5 years and have been given the opportunity to go to work for a great company in Tampa. Although everything was lost, I have been touched by so many people it has changed my life forever.

An experience I know I will look back on as a positive not a negative. A fantastic lady from New Jersey (Lois DeCaro Real Estate Broker) allowed me to stay in her beach condo for two months rent free…….she is a true angel. …..I could not have made it without her. She even provided me with my first refinance which we will close on Friday.

As you know, referrals are the lifeline in this business and it has been very difficult getting started. If you can think of any opportunity to get in touch with realtors in the Greater Tampa Bay area it would be a tremendous help. I assure my commitment to service excellence is 2nd to none.

Thank you for everything that your group is doing to help the people from my community restore their lives.

Dean R. Graham,

I think our Gov Thru FEMA has gone beyond their duty. It has been over a year & now people need to be back on their feet, so to speak. I have tenants who were tenants in the storm & are STILL getting their rent PAID by FEMA. When will this stop?  It has now become the PC way to WellFare. When a person's home burns down & they have NO insurance, FEMA doesn't house them for a year + so they can get on their feet. They need to get off this program & back to work & back to rebuilding their lives. We may have another reason to ask FEMA to step in & help families in the near furture, but if this keeps up, FEMA may be out of money for the next round! Landlord in Georgia

Cool!

You took a disaster - - and with lots of effort and a strong positive attitude - - made it into a stepping stone to greater sucess.  Tell the millions living in poverty for generations how you did it!

Best of luck!

It appears that Louisiana and the country were not prepared for the amount of devastation that occured.  Rebuilding will take time.  I wonder if anyone has come up with a master plan that would encourage homeowners to be part of rebuilding the town they left behind.  After all the turmoil has settled down did the leaders invite homeowners to participate in the future of the town and the recovery? A new town could rise out of this devastation.  It is time to consult the best engineers and to get everyone involved.  Europe recovered from World War II.  It did not happen overnight and a new and stronger Europe emerged from the devastation.  People make it happen when they work together.  Real Estate is not just passive property.  There is a lot of emotions involved with a home.  I think New Orleans should have taken a clue from Charleston South Carolina after the earthquake.  They directed their own self-recovery.  Perhaps a little research of what is available and can be shared would be a place to start.
