Are you resolved to move to Naples Florida and become a full time Pelican Bay resident? Are you concerned by moving to Pelican Bay you might miss your Northern grand children? Let me tell you about a wonderful FREE way to stay in touch with Internet video calls made on your computer via a program called Skype.
If your computer has a webcam, go to Skypeand in a few short minutes download this free program to your computer. Once you join Skype the program is loaded onto your computer. You’ll need to turn on your webcam and speakers to be able to do video calls with other Skype members. Skype can even tell you the people in your address book who are Skype members! You can even make Skype-to-Skype calls to outside the U.S.! When you make a Skype call, the person you call will be able to see and hear you. You will also be able to see and hear them. Skype gives you the option of calling with or without using the video function.
When we moved to Pelican Bay in 1996, not everyone had an e-mail account. To say I missed my family and friends when I moved here is an understatement. Long distance phone calls back then were still pretty expensive. I vividly remember sitting on my lanai hand writing letters to my girlfriend, MJ, describing life in Naples. MJ and I have known one another since 1966. Our letter writing started when I transferred out of the high school we attended and has continuted to this day.
E-mailing became more common place over the time I have lived in Pelican Bay. Receiving e-mails with photos and videos from friends and family members makes me feel more connected with their lives. To this day, MJ and I e-mail one another at least once a week.
Friends I know here in Naples use Skype to not only keep in touch with friends but also to keep in touch with their children and more importantly their grandchildren. One friend of mine uses Skype to read books and tell bedtime stories to her grandchild! Would you love the opportunity to interact more with your grandchildren while you are here in Pelican Bay? Skype could be the answer for you. Why not try Skype today?
I not only use Skype for keeping in touch with family and friends but also for business. On the left hand side of this blog, you will see a blue button with a CALL ME written inside of it. If you are a Skype member, you can click on this button and be connected with me via a Skype-to-Skype call no matter where you live. Potential buyers of Pelican Bay should find this a useful tool to obtain more information about our unique beach community.
I’m still working on the 2010 year-to-date Pelican Bay statistics. I shall hopefully have them finished and posted to this blog soon.
Work and company have kept me from visiting our beach lately. I did manage to get down to the Sandpiper restaurant last week and snapped this sunset photo for you to enjoy.

After 43 years of what I like to call "serving" in Chicago, the beach here in Pelican Bay never ceases to amaze me. When the Gulf waters are warm, I'm down at the beach swimming after work. When the Gulf waters are cooler, I try to walk down to the beach several times a week. The main reason my husband and I moved here was to be near the beach and enjoy Naples warm weather.
Taking a fishing pole down to the beach in Pelican Bay never really crosses my mind as I do not fish. My brother James was just in town this weekend. James LOVES to fish. Give James a fishing pole, some bait and a spot to fish and you might not see him for hours.
James' absolute favorite spot to fish in Pelican Bay is at the Sandbar beach by the inlet between Pelican Bay and the public beach. He has caught several fish in that spot but always releases the fish.....at least that is what he tells me! Since James was used to fishing in Lake Michigan, he had to learn about all our salt water fish. At this point in time, James knows more about the fish in the Naples area then I ever will!
Do you enjoy fishing? Are you fond of fishing in a certain spot in Pelican Bay? Would you care to share your favorite fishing spot? I know James would like to fish in spots recommended by other fishermen. If you would like to share your favorite spots, take a moment to click on the comment link at the very bottom of this blog entry to share your recommendation!
I drove James to the airport this morning. James was not looking forward to traveling back into Chicago's weather. Whenever family members come to Naples for a visit, I am always very excited to see them. When they leave, I always feel a bit down in the dumps. Does anyone else go through this syndrome?
Pelican Bay is such a beautiful place to live. While the beach facilities drew Don & I to purchase here, there are many more amenities that residents and their guest can enjoy. Which amenities do you enjoy?

Today as I was on my way to the Inn at Pelican Bay, I decided to take a short cut through the Marketplace at Pelican Bay. Imagine my surprise when I came upon this barricade which made it impossible to drive in front of the old Albertson's.
My friends up North keep e-mailing me about how cold it is in Chicago land. Today as I was coming back from my appointment, I saw our flowers in Pelican Bay being covered up!
Up and down Pelican Bay Blvd. different subdivisions were busy putting coverings over their flowers. It has been pretty cold here the last couple of nights but as my brother Patrick says, "It may be 40 degrees in Naples but it is 6 degrees in Southern Illinois! I choose Naples!"
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Mine holiday was made extra special by the presence of my brother Patrick. It has been over 30 years since Pat and I celebrated the holidays together. We saw a pretty sunset down at the Sandpiper on Christmas Eve and enjoyed watching an obstructedview of the New Year's Eve fireworks from The Club in front of L'Ambiance.
Where ever you are this evening, I hope you are staying warm!
