You’ve probably heard about Table Rock Lake rising to an all-time high this spring. This area experienced record-setting rainfall for the months of February and March, and the lake then rose to 933.25 feet. The previous record was set in 1961 at 932.5 feet. It has really been a sight to behold!
We live directly across from the Point 7 sign (to those of you not familiar with our lake yet, we have point numbers that help you know where you are around the lake) which normally sticks WAY above the water. The sign posts themselves are probably a good 6 feet from the ground to the bottom of the sign. My husband has a telescope trained on the sign, and every morning he has been checking on the amount of sign showing. At one point, the entire sign was covered. The good news is that, at this point in time, the Point 7 sign is starting to show signs of the “7” sticking out of the water again! The lake appears to be clearing up nicely, and there are very few intrusions that can be seen.
The dam has 10 chutes(flood gates) that empty water into Lake Taneycomo. It was a really interesting sight when all 10 chutes were open and the water falling fast and furious! Tons of folks were there taking pictures or just watching! We were part of the crowd! It was an amazing site – the power of the water, the sound of the water and the amount passing thru the chutes, it was a sight to behold!
