I'm going to confess that I'm really not so sure about the idea of Los Gatos having a skateboard park. One of my young cousins was seriously hurt in one, breaking his femur and getting laid up for quite a long time.
Maybe it was just a bad park design?
Whatever it is, the idea makes me nervous. But apparently a lot of other Los Gatons feel differently, as the park idea is gaining ground.

re: Los Gatos Skatepark Is Getting Endorsements

The thing I love most about our skate park in Rancho Santa Margarita is that the kids actually have a semi-controlled place to skate. In RSM skateboarding is prohibited in many public and private areas (schools, business centers). The skate park provides a place for kids who would be skating anyway to take it to a place where property isn't being damaged and helmets are required. Young teenage males tend to think helmets look uncool - but they wear them at the skate park. They have to. Give me a broken wrist, foot, arm or leg any day of the week. Most of the time that's a relatively easy fix. Head injuries are a different story and often have tragic long-lasting effects.

re: Los Gatos Skatepark Is Getting Endorsements
Thanks Kelly. My cousin's broken femur was no small deal, it required surgery, a long hospital stay, a wheelchair for far too long and just more grief than most people can imagine. I'm sure I'd feel differently if I hadn't seen the downside up close and personal.
