I love the public. I really do. I would not have stayed in this business for 28 years if I didn't like working with people - at least most of the time. However, there are occasions when I question my decision! I received a call from a stranger in New York City (via my toll-free line) about houses on my website. The individual asked me what the taxes were on some homes in the area. I gave him an estimate, being lovely and charming the whole time (after all, he was a prospect!). The caller then told me that he was working with an agent. So I asked why he didn't call his agent for that information. He said he was researching everything on his own, then he would ask his agent to show him homes. SO WHAT AM I, THE PUBLIC LIBRARY? This sort of call is something akin to late night or holiday calls from people who say they want information but don't want to bother their agent because it's late at night or a holiday. So bother a stranger. I expect my clients to bother me. In fact, I want them to bother me. That's my job. I answer their questions or I get the information they need to make an informed decision about the biggest investment in their lives. I would chastise any client of mine who bothered another agent for information that I could provide. That's just the way I work; I respect my clients and I respect my fellow agents. User Comments

Karl, I feel your pain! Today a woman called me from Wyoming after seeing my website. She wasn't interested in a home in Atlanta. She was bored and it was snowing where she was. True story, she actually said that. She just wanted to ask me about a made up town in Metro Atlanata that was in the return address of an envelope she received. It was part of a bogus check cashing scheme and she just wanted to know if this town was in the zip code she was looking for. It wasn't. Anyway, I counseled her for a few minutes on consumer fraud issues and gave her some websites to go look at.
