60 Minutes on the Real Estate Market |
The CBS news magazine program. "60 Minutes," did a real estate piece yesterday that approached reality. They focused on Stockton, California, generally regarded as one of the hardest-hit markets in the subprime mortgage meltdown. It was clear that times are very difficult in Stockton, with hundreds of mortgages in default, foreclosure or bank ownership.
But, once again, there was an allusion to Stockton being perhaps typical of conditions across the country. Stockton is a worst-case scenario, not typical, anymore than the oil patch towns of Texas are typical in their booming economy, or the city of Charlotte, NC.
Maybe eventually the media will catch on that they can spotlight individual markets without extrapolating from them a general overall "national real estate market."
Maybe. Don't hold your breath.

1. RE: 60 Minutes on the Real Estate Market
Hello! I am a resident of the Weston Ranch area of Stockton, C.A. 95206. This segment really hit home for me as to how things went from living in the hottest market area of C.A. and the prestigee of ownership in this highly prized areea and community to going straight to hell in one year and a half. I bought my home in 1988 for $86,000 when the development first took off. One and a half years ago my home would of sold for nearly $400,000 dollars. Today I would be luck y to get realisticly $190,000 for it. Yet I am not sad, I was one of the lucky ones I did not get screwed over by the sham and fraudulent acts of those trying to make a quick dollar and in turn ruining the market. I feel for my neighbors who recently bought my same type of house for $400,000 plus dollars who today can't get $200,000 for their home yet they pay a 3 to $4,000 mortage monthly. I really wish I would of cashed out a year and a half ago for $400,000 but if so I would have ruined some one elses dream of the myth of owning land in C.A.
In closing we all are loosers here but some one should be held responsible for this fraud and jail time for the people who ruined the country yes the country. This might of started in Stockton but the entir U.S. now suffers. Do you remember the Emron scandal that many went to jail? I think this is much bigger than that don't you.
Thank You! 60 Minutes for bringing this to the attention of the world.
