BAYSIDE HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO PRESENT
FREE OUTDOOR SWING/JAZZ CONCERT
BAYSIDE, NY - J oin the Bayside Historical Society (BHS) on Sunday, June 28 th at 6 p.m. for a free, outdoor concert at Fort Totten Park, featuring the Something Special Big Band (Phil Costa, Director), one of the finest swing/jazz bands in the metropolitan area.
The annual event is co-sponsored by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, and is held on the great lawn of Fort Totten Park, overlooking Little Bay. Attendees can bring chairs, blankets and picnics. For more information, call (718) 352-1548, or visit baysidehistorical.org.
The Something Special Big Band , with its Basie style, consists of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and a full rhythm section. All the members of the band are professional musicians. The band has played at many of the major music and jazz festivals throughout metro NY, and has accompanied Count Basie band leader, Frank Foster, jazz trumpeter, Clark Terry, and internationally famous bassist Percy Heath during its concert/show services. The band also has five recordings to date.
This program is made possible by funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, NYS Senator Frank Padavan, and NYC Councilmember Tony Avella.
The Bayside Historical Society is located within Fort Totten Park, in Bayside, NY, and is easily
accessible by public transportation (Q13 or Q16 bus to Fort Totten) and by car: Cross Island Parkway North to exit 32 (Bell Blvd.). A New York City landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, the Bayside Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of Bayside and offers a variety of cultural and educational programs, exhibits and events for the community.
