Hey Look, A New Category

Jan. 11, 2009

This will be to document the transformation of my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Limited that I picked up this past November. Up until now I have been driving a 2000 Durango (which is now for sale if anyone wants it). She had been a good truck, but seemed very limiting in the way of aftermarket parts to make her more beach worthy. So off to the Auto Auction in Chesapeake, and back I come with a new toy for cruising Carova.

Phase 1 – Magnets & Decals

Jan. 24, 2009

Well what can I say? There are a lot of things I want to do to the jeep, but the budget is tight and I want to go slow. So I start with the simple stuff.

First the magnets; after all this is a work vehicle. My Durango was white and the standard RE/MAX magnet worked well with it. But the hunter green of this Cherokee called out for something else. So I went to Access Design for some custom magnet work.

Later I was offered a decal for the Carova Beach Fire Department. Being a proud member I was excited to put the badge on her.

The last thing I did was browse E-bay for anything Cherokee. What I found was a guy selling decals with a Cherokee emblem and saying “Eat, Sleep, Off Road, Life is Good”. Well since I do eat & sleep off-road, and I believe that life is good, I took two.

Now I think it’s time to focus on the tires.

99 Cherokee – In The Beginning

Jan. 11, 2009

In the beginning there was this…..

A 1999 Jeep Cherokee Limited, courtesy of Tidewater Auto Auction. It was a very confusing experience, and wasn’t sure what I had bought myself into. Apart from replacing the exhaust system, it seems that I have gotten a pretty sound vehicle.
Here’s a picture after her first week on the beach…..

Now what to do with her, the tires are brand new so they may have to wait for a while. They are 235s which give the Jeep plenty clearance, but they are narrow and the high center of gravity makes her feel unstable when navigating the ruts. She has already seen water up to the wipers (this time it wasn’t on purpose) so I would like to see a snorkel in her future. I never liked having the Spare in the cargo area, so a roof mount system will be needed, and how about a rack of lights while I’m up there. Oh, it will be interesting to see the transformation that she undergoes.
