Greenville, SC is a great place to live and retire!

May. 4, 2007

Greenville, SC and the Upstate SC area is fastly becoming one of the most popular housing destinations in the country due to great variety of reasons.

1. Stable economy, near zero inflation, cost of housing is very reasonable and will probably not tend to decline compared to many areas like DC, FL, CA, New England, and other areas where inflation and the cost of housing has been soaring over the last few years. The median cost of the average size home in Greenville is under $169,000

2. Climate: Greenville, SC has all four seasons, the winters are moderate, with little or no snow, you can play golf in Jan-Feb often, The Spring and Fall are marvelous and often do not need air conditioning or heat to make the home comfortable. Summer is warm, and humid, but not as humid as FL or even other areas in SC, since we are in the foothilss of the Smokey Mountains, Cherokee Mountains, and Blue Ridge Parkway.

3. Easy to travel to the coast for the beaches, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Isle of Palms, Pawley's Island are all only about 200-250 miles drive. Asheville, Hendersonville, Gatlinburg, Brevard, Highlands, Saphire Valley, Maggie Valley, The Blueridge Parkway are all easily reached by car within 70-125 miles. Shopping, restaurants and sporting events in Atlanta or Charlotte is just 100-150 miles away. Beaches are 200-225 miles from Greenville.

4. Plenty of things to see and do here in Greenville. The new Falls Park on the Reedy River, downtown boasts one of this country's only natural waterfalls with a picturesque park and artistic suspension bridge and walkway. There are over 70 restaurants in the downtown area and many line the newly remodeled Main street and West End area. The new Greenville Drive baseball stadium, Arts museums, playhouses, street festivals, at least 2-3 per week during the warmer weather. There are over 60 golf courses in and around Greenville. Go to: http://www.10best.com/Greenville/

5. Low unemployement. Those who wants jobs can generally find them. Low inflation, low cost of housing make Greenville and Upstate SC one of the most economical metropolitan areas to live and work.

6. Excellent health care. The Greenville Memorial Hospital System is expanding in Greer with a new teaching hospital facility in addition to the main and branch locations in service now. St Francis Hospital, Mary Black Hospital, Allen Bennett Hospital all serve the Upstate South Carolina communities.

May. 4, 2007

A study from www.Realtor.org shows that South Carolina is among the 12 fastest growing states in the U.S. The study determined that "The most significant factors affecting housing during the coming years will be whether aging baby boomers decide to grow old where they are and where young immigrants decide to settle."

South Carolina is one of the fastest growing states that contain many suburban communities and attract migration from the rest of the country as well recent immigrants. This group of states will have the highest rate of growth for the 55 and older population. These states are New Hampshire, Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

The Upstate SC area cost of living is less than the national median cost of living. and the Upstate median cost of housing is less than the national median cost of housing. An average home of about 1500 square feet is priced in the $150,000 - $169,000 range. Gasoline prices are about the lowest in the nation according to The American Automobile Association surveys. It is not only a safe and pleasant place to live and work, but also very economical.
