• Feb. 4, 2008 - The Tybee Bomb is Back
The Tybee Bomb has inspired debate and acrimony over the years since it plummeted into the Atlantic in February of 1958. It's back in the news. There is no apparent reason, it just likes to come to the surface every now and then. Of course, the military says there is no danger from the bomb as it's trigger had been removed. However, creative minds have come up with all sorts of ideas and dangerous scenarios. In September of 2004, the Air Force looked again for the bomb. When their findings were released in June of 2005, they said it was irretrievably lost and there were no clues on where to look for it. It is probably buried beneath yards of ocean bottom. |
