The Gene Molloy Real Estate Blog

May. 17, 2006 - Allow Me To Explain

As most of you who read my blog know, I make an effort to let my true self shine through. Some of you who know me personally already know that I can be a grumpy curmudgeon. Most of the time I have a war within myself trying to stay "politically correct", something I must do because, after all, I am a REALTORŪ and I have a code of ethics I must abide by, not to mention a business to run. I will, however, speak my mind, which I have done in rants about unloyal clients, sloppy agents, etc.

I do that because I believe my readers are very smart people, who are able to learn the lessons in the stories without me having to spell them out like they were third graders. The fact is, if my posts offend you, you are probably someone I wouldn't want to work with any way.

My first Broker once told me that I should try and befriend every agent I meet because someday I might have to do a deal with them. As with many things I learned from my first Broker, I strongly disagree. Why? Because I would rather befriend my clients so that they can feel comfortable knowing that I am working in their best interest rather than just trying to get to the closing table with my friend, the agent, so we can both get paid. I have other streams of income so my bills will get paid, I don't have to sell out clients to get to the closing table.

Any way, there is this agent in Seattle who knows so much about how people should blog, that she sent an e-mail to a blogging forum instructing the nation on the do's and dont's. I wish she would have mentioned me by name when she used me as an example of how not to blog. When I called her on it, she claims she didn't base it on me, but she hit my "Congratulations" post so dead on that I will never be convinced that it wasn't.

So here's the link:  http://ardell.realtownblogs.com/zz-on-blogging-and-bloggers/blogging-dos-and-donts/ Check it out for yourselves. In fact, you will be able to access her whole blog once you check out this post. After reading some of her stuff do you feel like an informed consumer............or a third grader?

As always, if you have found yourself receiving my blog postings via e-mail, it is because I have either blogged about you personally, blogged about something I know is of interest to you, or I consider you to be a person of deep thinking and intellect and I would love to have you occasionally commenting on my blog. If you would like to be removed from the list simply send me an e-mail saying so.

Around the time this song was written, the man who wrote it knew you...I wonder if you showed up in this song long before you showed up in the blog of the Seattle realtor?

Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)
Written by Tommy Shaw
Lead Vocals by Tommy Shaw

You see the world through your cynical eyes
You're a troubled young man I can tell
You've got it all in the palm of your hand
But your hand's wet with sweat and your head needs a rest

And you're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
How can you be such an angry young man
When your future looks quite bright to me
How can there be such a sinister plan
That could hide such a lamb, such a caring young man

You're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
Get up, get back on your feet
You're the one they can't beat and you know it
Come on, let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot and don't blow it

You're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're killing yourself if you don't believe it
Get up, get back on your feet
You're the one they can't beat and you know it
Come on, let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot and don't blow it.

Interpretation

Don't get mad at the world or give up hope just because of a few set-backs. Perservere--you're worth it.

Gene,

As long as we are doing songs on the Gene Molloy Blog...do you remember Cyndi Lauper? This is adapted from one of her songs.... so in your head think of her funny, kinda screachy, scratchy voice with a nasaly NY Brooklyn accent singing this to you. Phill Collins and others have done it but I prefer to remember Cyndi Lauper's voice with these lyrics.

True Colors

Don't be discouraged
Oh i realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people who snipe at your blog
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness around you
Can make them look small

But i see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why i love your blog
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

The lyrics kind of go over and over the same thing until you want to say "Cyndi shut up! I get the idea" ...so I did not repeat them.

I think the first comment on my blog was from Frances Flynn Thorson real estate blogger extraordinaire who has done a lot more blogging than many of us. Frances comment was something about I would find my blog voice. 300 entries later I am not sure if I have but it is MY blog, it doesn't matter what any self appointed blogging expert thinks of it... or what they think about how you practice your trade, in your market. Frances could have critiqued what I wrote but she is too classy and smart for that.

Keep showing your true colors Gene Molloy! I like reading your blog.

Maureen

P.S. I mean no disprespect to the Anonymous commenters song...it just made me want to share Cyndi Lauper's song..with and about Gene's Molloy's blog. Any other songs out there?

Drat! It seems someone has told HER how self centered and pompous her blog was AND taught her how to do links. She seems to be blogging about something more than how to blog, how to blog about real estate and being on a first name basis with the search engines.

Some Favorite SEATTLE links. - 12 hours ago
My Favorite Kirkland Blogs and sites - 12 hours ago
These Sites are Awesome! - 12 hours ago
[Sticky] Other Posts of Interest - 12 hours ago

She'll be moving on up from 400+ on Blogtopsites at this rate, which is only appropriate if you bill yourself as a "Super Blogger."

Links, links she finally realized she needs links on a website. Photos a week ago (stolen) and links now she is evolving and learning. "These sites are awesome" sounds like she has discovered there is a world out there and that it does not revolve around her boring blog. There may be less "blah, blah, blah I am wonderful." It was like a cartoon.
