Aug. 8, 2006 - What's In Your Dryer Duct?

As you may, or may not know, I am a condo dweller. I am also the President of the Association's Board of Directors. That's why I know that many condo dwellers moved to condominiums so they could live a maintenance free lifestyle.

Sure enough, if you live in condo you probably won't be cutting grass or shoveling snow. The exterior maintenance of the building will be taken care of without an ounce of effort on your part. Nothing to do but sit back and let the board and the management company worry about it, right?

Well no, not really. If you are in possession of an in unit washer and dryer you got some maintenance to do my friend, as I witnessed today when Bob Benedict from General Duct Cleaning in Antioch, IL. dropped by to change my flexible duct between my dryer and the vent line to the roof. Not only was there a cantaloupe sized wad of fuzzy, linty junk removed from the back of the dryer, but there were three or four fabric softener sheets as well. No wonder the association has the common vent lines cleaned out every now and then. Talk about a fire hazard.

So there you have it mi amigos. Clean out those dryer exhausts once in a while so you don't burn up. And while your at it, change the filter in your furnace too. So much for maintenance free living huh?

As always, if you have found yourself receiving my blog postings via e-mail, it is because I have either blogged about you personally, blogged about something I know is of interest to you, or I consider you to be a person of deep thinking and intellect and I would love to have you occasionally commenting on my blog. If you would like to be removed from the list simply send me an e-mail saying so.
