Florida lawmakers had been debating which should be declared Florida's official state pie: key lime pie, pecan pie or strawberry pie. Key lime pie seemed to be the strongest contender when Florida residents were asked for their opinion, believing that key lime better represents the state due to the fact that Florida is so well known for its citrus. The measure (SB 676) now goes to the House of Representatives.
You will keep us posted as to the winner, won't you? Having had key lime pie three times in my life, twice in Florida and once in Minnesota, I definitely vote for key lime in Florida. Somehow it isn't as refreshing on a brisk afternoon in Minnesota as it was on a hot summer day in the "Glades".
The latest on this is that lawmakers have voted to make key lime pie the state's official pie and we're waiting on Governor Jeb Bush for signing. I will update the post when a final decision has been made.
I *love* key lime pie, so I'm all for this vote and couldn't understand how anyone in Florida could think there could be other options for our state pie. Florida *is* key lime pie!
