Hello all,

This is my first posting here. Great group!

Some may, or may not know that Verizon Wireless will be giving away free BlackBerrys (of equal or lesser value) with the purchase of a BlackBerry (including the Storm) and a two-year commitment. The promotion runs until March 31st.

Coincidental with that news, I am upgrading from my trusty Palm Treo 700WX, with Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional, to the Blackberry Curve 8330, and will be upgrading my wife to it at the same time.

Thanks Dick!

It should be an adventure.

I was a Windows Mobile user and became pretty good with it. I originally started a few years ago with a Dell Axim X50V, which I still love to use, and then applied that knowledge to smartphones. The Dell still holds it's own to this day. Why they never turned it into a smartphone, I'll never know.

I ran the whee out of my Treo 700WX with Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional. Then I guess I simply outgrew it. My daughter will be inheriting it sometime this week.

If there are any frustrated Treo 700WX users out there, drop me a line and maybe I can offer a couple of suggestions, I'm no expert, but I know a few neat tricks with it and I am willing to share.

Re: upgrade from Treo 700w to Blackberry posted by Chris --- after 3 miserable years with my Treo 700w, I bought the new BB Storm the day it came out in November. What a joy! I hope you will like it as much as I do. It is slower texting, as you will see --- but overall, it's great!

I coped with the Treo 700W(X) for years. The availability of an upgrade from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional made the Treo less prone to choking and freezing.

For those that own a Treo 700W(X) you can get the free update from Palm as "Updater 1.24." This will probably take up to an hour of your time, but it is well worth it to tame the beast.

One advantage to the update is the ability to use the Treo as a modem for Verizon Wireless broadband. This was great at open houses where the house was vacant and had no "free" internet service. Then you could access MLS and show clients additional choices.

I was also doing this with Windows Mobile 5 with a little program from June Fabrics. I will post this tidbit in a different post.

I don't have experience with the Treo but I have had a Blackberry for about a year and a half now and cannot believe the difference it has made in my efficiency and the way I conduct my business. It's so user friendly so there's not the "tech stress" that I've dealt with with other technology purchases. I think you will be pleased with the upgrade to the Blackberry. Good luck!

Hello, I used the Treo 650 for several years and it was a love-hate relationship... I loved the calendar, the appointments I set up in my phone were sent wirelessly to the internet so when my phone did die and I did not know where my appointments were the next day all I had to do was log into a web site to get the info. I really miss that, I am not very good about plugging in my new bb storm to transfer the data to my computer. I also had the mls system on my treo which I really miss. It downloaded automatically every night and since it had the infra red it was also my mls key. Now I feel like I had to downgrade and I carry the active key, I do not like that. Waiting for the key fob that is supposed to be coming out that will sync with your bb and you can then use the fob with the infra red to gain entry into the ibox-cool. I guess that the thing I like the most about my bb is that it sync's with outlook so my contacts are all in one place and the treo did not do that. Oh, and it doesn't lock up on me, amen! But I do not like the texting on the storm, it is slow and loud. Same as the dialing on the phone. If I would have known, I would not have changed.

Diane,

Wish we would have met long ago! Let's talk about some of your past problems, if you would have contacted me I would have shared the codes to fix your freezing up and resetting. Many agents carrying Treo's do hotsync to Outlook so that was an easy one. Yes I understand the Supra and having the MLS and one piece eKey. We have had many comments about the disappointment of both the Storm and iPhone when it comes to data entry (texting) compared to the QWERTY keyboard. Sometimes we think we are moving up in the world only to find what is most important to us is left behind.
