Blackberry - Calendar Sync
|
|
I have a BB Curve 8330. I have been using the BB Desktop Manager to sync my calendar, address book, tasks. etc. It wants to delete old calendar events that I don't want it to delete. I can't find how to tell it not to. Do you use this method to sync or is there a way to do it through Outlook or another add-on that is more controllable? There must be some software that can do this. I have read of others having the same problem.
Thank you,
Beverly
Bev (and everyone with a BB):
In the RIM Data Manager, click on Main Menu, then on the Synchronize tab, THEN (here's the trick) there is a Configure sub-menu where you should click on 'Synchronization'; then click on the button to 'configure synchronization settings for my desktop program'. This is where you can set up how far back you want your Outlook Calendar to retain your appointments, etc on your BB as well as other settings for your Task List, Contacts, etc. One item to keep in mind is how much memory your model has to retain all that stuff. I haven't had any problems yet with my wonderful new 8900, but I do retain appointments, etc from the past just so I can look them up since I don't need to remember them!

Thanks for the reply Sandi. I have already tried doing the setup like you suggested and it seems like it should work, but it still wants to delete any items older than a couple of months. It does not let you pick and choose what to delete. I have heard that this is a problem with BBs and someone said to use a Google calendar instead of the Outlook calendar. It seems like the BB is the limiting factor though, not Outlook.

Reading this series of posts peaked my curiosity as to my own calendar with the BB 8330 Curve and the programs I run on it. I use TP8i for my contact management and can actually run my calendar back to a time prior to purchasing the program with all info intact. Thanks for the thought.
This doesn't solve the problem with Outlook, but out of the same frustration I added Google Calendar to my life, purely as an "archive" record of where I have been and who I was with. I manage my day/week directly from my Blackberry calendar and tasks list, but when I want to check when I met somebody a few months ago, or pull an activity summary at tax time, etc., Google Calendar still has everything in it.
It's also cool that Google Calendar automatically and wirelessly synchronizes every couple of hours, and it doesn't get confused. I can add appointments on my Blackberry and at my desk, and they all end up in both places just a little later.
Another useful app if you spend a lot of time in your car ... Jott.com. Just speeddial Jott and either state a to-do and when you want to be reminded, or send a Jott to your Google Calendar, with day and time. Not only does it land on your calendar promptly, but it gets sync'd just like you typed it in on Google and on your Blackberry.
Hi everyone:
This is my first posting.....looking for guidance on my first purchase of a blackberry. I hear for business the Curve is the best, they say no "smart phone".
My intent is to have a phone, data list, and calendar - other apps to have? Can anyone give me a few hints so I do not make a mistake in purchasing....
I have the BB curve and really like it. I synch the calendar on it with Outlook on my pc, I access the wireless MLS version very easily and out here in CA, Verizon is offering a free pod to attach to use with the wireless lockboxes.
There aren't a lot of apps available but I haven't found anything that I needed, that I can't get.
Thanks, Cyndi. I am definitely looking forward to getting my first BB. However, I have all my contacts on Palm! Wonder if it is compatible to hot sync with the BB?
I've switched to Google Calendar as my primary datebook. Easily syncs with Outlook (calendar) as well as my Blackberry, and is available any other place there is a computer with a web connection.

PS Also try Google Voice, an awesome app and free too from our friends at Google
Terry, if it's a different OS, I'm not sure if it will synch......check with the carriers and see what they say, or get online with both and look in the FAQ's to see what they have on it. Maybe you can synch over to your computer and then on to the BB?
