I just got a message that Palm had set a release date for the Palm Pre - June 6.
It will only be available on Sprint (wow, that really bites) and will cost $199.
That's after a $100 rebate and a service agreement.

Did they realize that the 6th is on a Saturday? DOH ... weird release date for sure.
The rebate thing stinks. They should just give out the discounted phone without the hassle.
According to most, Sprint sux, except maybe in New York. I dropped them years ago.
They should have worked with Verizon ... oh well.

Anyway, those of you who have been waiting for the Pre don't have to wait much longer.
Also of note, the new iPhone is supposed to be announced around the 8th of June.
This will probably steal most of the Pre thunder so Palm's timing is sorta bad.

Just thought you all might want to know... http://www.palm.com/us/products/phones/pre/

I have also heard the June 6th date and I really want and and really NEED the new Pre but I don't think I can go with Sprint....How disappointing. Maybe Verizon or even ATT will be available soon. Hope I can wait it out.

For those of us that remember what Sprint used to be, the word is that it is much better now. I wouldn't automatically rule it out without checking on it at this point.

Mark, you may very well be right. But, I listen to a lot of chatter on these things and Sprint, in many areas, still isn't up to it for some reason. I'd say that's too bad, but what's worse is to have an amazing phone and a carrier that really sux... I'd hate to be the lab rat because my business depends on my phone. But, if someone who uses Sprint and has no issues in their area, posts about it here, maybe some could enjoy the new phone and get good service without getting stuck. Here's hoping.

Hi Larry and Gang,

I have used Sprint for 5 years and have not had any issues with them!!! Living in Ohio we have good service; I also used it in New England and Maryland without issue....even upstate in Maine!!!

I have a 755P and love it.....thinking about the pre but also thinking about switching platforms....maybe the curve or iphone....no decision yet.....letting others be the test subjects :-)

How long has it been since you used Sprint in Maryland?

I would say not to choose the iPhone since you're using RealeSeller, and Outlook in general. The iPhone can't sync tasks... that puts it out, unless you don't monitor your tasks using your phone. All those reminders would have to be duplicated on my calendar and I don't really like that idea even tho you can just drag a task to the calendar and drop it.

I'm glad to hear that Sprint works where you are. I had many difficulties while traveling in California, and even locally here in Dallas, some places had very low bars.

Group,

The much expected event is about to hit "The Pre" is coming June 6th. Few things I have been reading for the last few days, sorry I have been mobile since Tuesday, I want to clear up. As many people that say they hate their carrier as many will say they love them. Guess what there is not a best carrier, depends on where you live etc so let's move past that. You need to get a phone from a carrier for 24 hours to see if it works where you live, work, play and favorite bar. If the phone works then you can change carriers. Early fee for changing carriers, last nite had a long talk with an agent who just signed a 2 year agreement with Verizon and wanted the Pre, her concern was the cancellation fee of $150. Do the math, if the phone works where she needs it to work she will pay Verizon $150 a month for the next 2 years, switching to Sprint her bill drops to $100 for the exact same service, net gain on switching $50 X 24 = $1,200 less $150 = $1,050. SWITCH!!!!

I know I read about why Sprint? Sprint has AT&T and Verizon extremely worried, they have stopped the bleeding and have plans coming out which in my opinion will reclaim the market share. Sprint and Palm teamed up and expect to sell "In the millions" of the Pre, that was the reason for the delay. Palm will never announce how long they offer a phone with just one carrier, remember the Centro. I do know for a fact they have tested the GSM model of the Pre which means AT&T and T-Mobile are in line to release, and as far as Verizon just paint a different name.

I have wrote about the war between the carriers ever since Dan Hesse was named CEO of Sprint and I do believe he is going to shake up the market. Just so you all know I am an AT&T customer so don't think I am plugging my company, actually I think they all suck when it comes to service, sorry did I say that out loud.

Watch what is about to happen with wireless cards in the next 60 to 90 days.

So with that all said come on Pre and watch certain other smartphones go runnin back to there Momma!

Happy Memorial Day all!

Recently, I watched a video of the PRE announcement for the release of the new phone, and they stated that Sprint would have a 90 day exclusive for sales. After that, the other carriers would, supposedly, have access to the supply. Time will tell. As for Sprint vs. Goliath, as Dick said, it depends upon your area and the quality of service provided where we live and work (although I did like that he included the "fav bar":). Locally, Verizon has always given fewer "dead" zones and has allowed a more national travel base for me. Time is changing that. The IPhone is changing a lot of attitudes, too. Me, I will stick with Verizon and my Centro until the price AND service warrant a change. The first company or cell phone to truly allow the control of SPAM will have me at "hello". LOL.
