I am converting from a Palm Treo 700P to Blackberry (Sprint). Question; how to transfer Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, etc. from Palm OS to Outlook/Blackberry. I've looked in manuals, online, etc. but can't seem to find how to do so intuitively and Palm support continues to be less than helpful (one reason for the change). Help!?

If this is a one time transfer, your cell phone carrier could be able to copy the contents of your old cell phone to the new one.

If Verizon is your carrier, I understand that you could use the web based, VZAccess Manager to upload the data from your old phone, and download it to your new one.

As a matter of fact, I am about to put that to the test because my wife is upgrading from a Verizon XV6800 which runs Windows Mobile 6.1, to an LG Versa that doesn't run Windows Mobile. It was recommended that I do that by Verizon Tech Support.

Sorry to go off topic a little, but her new phone seemed "cool" enough for mention here.

The Versa (also known as the XV9600 ) seems to be unique inasmuch as it has a touch screen and a detachable case/keyboard.

This is a Sprint provider, and seemingly, neither the Palm/OS or Outlook/Sprint/Blackberry people seem able (or willing to risk it?) to venture into each other's "turf". I'll talk to the Sprint Corp. store staff again, am not optimistic but will think positively. Rick Yerman ABR, GRI Keller Williams Realty DTC - Greater Denver Metro Area

If your Palm Treo is also with Sprint, the local Sprint store ought to be able to transfer the data from one phone to the other. Verizon was able to do that for me when I gave up my Treo 700W and got the new Blackberry Storm. It's worth talking to them about it.

I just got the Blackberry Curve. The Alltel store transferred my contacts from old phone to the Blackberry. On the Blackberry Desktop Manager, which is software that came with it, there is a section called Device Switch Wizard, which worked extremely well bringing in my calendar, etc. from my Palm. I am very happy with my purchase so far.

I've changed phones and tested phones many times and found that if you have to rely on the local store to get your phone updated, you are sure to be disappointed. Some will do it, some won't. Either way I have no patience for waiting. LOL

WARNING!!! - If you do not set your sync software correctly using the method I'm going to suggest, you can wipe out all the data on your phone! Back up your phone before doing this!

My solution has always been to create a new database and profile in Outlook. Change the settings on the sync program so my old cell phone is the master. Then I sync the old phone to the clean database. I remove the phone and set the sync settings for the new phone so that Outlook (the computer) is the master and the new phone is the slave. Sync the phone... finished. Everything is restored and my new phone has all the data my old phone had.

The one issue that I've run in to doing this is on Tasks. If you have an iPhone, tasks will not sync. Why Apple would create a phone that connects to Outlook but won't use tasks is beyond me. That's the only reason I still have a Treo and an iPhone. I'm looking forward to seeing the Treo Pre released... at that point, if it works as advertised, my iPhone will may go to one of my kids. The unfortunate thing is the Pre will only be available on Sprint, and I'm not crazy about their coverage. Verizon has the best coverage of any cell service I've tried... but they won't have the Pre. It seems that we can't ever have it all.

Per Beverly's reply, I finally saw (like the snake you step on) the button on the Blackberry desktop for switching information between devices. It also transferred all of my Palm OS Tasks intact. After upgrading today to Office/Outlook 2007, I am convinced moving all of my info to Outlook and Blackberry is a good move.
