Building Your Business

Sweathogs was sold several years ago.  Floyd Wickman was the "head guy"....he now has a program called StarMakers.  I've taken it twice and I took Sweathogs once.  It's an awesome training class and gets down to the nitty gritty of things with scripts and all.  It's a little pricey ($1000) but it's well worth the $$$ spent.

My trainer for all 3 of the Floyd Wickman classes was Steve Poscente.  He is just as awesome of Floyd.  What's great about this class is that once the class is over (it's a 7-8 week, once a week, all day) both Floyd and the teacher/trainer keep in touch with you via e-mail.  I say spend the $$$$ and go for it....almost guarantee it will double your income by the end of the 8 weeks.  I've been in the biz almost 20 years and I still learn things from it.

Mentoring Services - SSG
Posted: 9:13 AM, Nov. 13, 2006
Among the options Realtors have to spend money, are the myriad of 'how
to improve your business' seminars and mentoring services. Larry
Kendall's 'Ninja Selling' has had a strong influence. SSG has recently
been to town and given an inticing intro to their services. Has anyone
had experience of SSG's mentoring program?

The Value of Coaching
Posted: 9:06 AM, Oct. 21, 2006
I suppose a coaching program would be worthwhile giving a student
confidence and communication skills.  But, it doesn't give any real estate skill.
IMO, that's better gotten in continuing education and transaction after transaction after transaction.
A great communicator doesn't a better real estate agent make.  One of the risks of
coaching programs for any sales job is that the student becomes a "fast talker". They are a real turn-off.

Uh oh Lenn - I find I have to disagree with you....

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.  Coaches help develop your strength and minimize your weaknesses.

We are a successful team - but we are adding a coach in the near future
(1-2 months).  We need help on a few issues that we are not strengthening ourselves - that's why we are bringing in an objective third party (the coach) to learn about who we are, where we are now, where we want to be and to help us get there.

Accountability is paramount.

Top business people all over the world utilize a coach - so do successful businesses, sports personalities, actors, etc.

Coaches will specialize - Tiger Woods coach does the following: makes
sure that every single time TW swings, that he doesn't deviate from the swing he is supposed to do - no matter the weather, how tired he is, how down he might feel that day, etc.  Yes, it's for a sports specific action, but it is easily transferable to other actions.

TW was at the top of his game - he then decided, with a COACH, to
completely change his swing.  He dropped down while he was practicing, but his goal was to be even better - this coach knew what would help him be better than ever.

The coach helped him stay focused, kept him accountable to practice
practice practice. TW was very successful, he didn't NEED to change ANYTHING. But, TW felt he could be better - so he brought in this coach.

Lenn, you may think coaches are worthless - but they really aren't - the Realtors who have made the biggest strides in their businesses and lives probably made them with the assistance of an 'accountability partner' aka a COACH.

Your spouse/friend/business partner doesn't know how to guide you - only support you - and more often than not - these types of accountability partners do not work out.

Darryl Davis Power Agent

Marti Ridriguez said: "I found Darryl Davis Power Agent coaching program very effective. For starters, they team you up with a Coach who works in and is well versed in a similar market as you. This was awe some because you don't get stuck with someone who doesn't understand your market and may try to give you advise that just doesn't work where you are. They kept me focused and accountable to my goals."

Darryl Davis is an excellent trainer. He is also a generous sponsor of the Web Women Giving Circle "Take An Agent To The Top" Raffle. Darryl has donated $777 worth of prizes!!

My Favorite Trainers
Posted: 10:25 AM, Aug. 23, 2006

My first trainer was Barb Schwartz.  Although today I would find some of the things silly that I did, it gave me a confidence boost for my beginnings.

Next was Mike Ferry.  I liked his strong approach of, "I am the real estate professional, you are hiring me for my expertise...now listen to me".  It worked well with my strong personality and propelled me to the level  that I now enjoy.  I have friends that are into Howard Brinton's system.  For me it was too touchy feely.  These friends are at equal or greater levels than  I because that system works well for their personalities.

A number of  agents in my office have excelled with The By Referral Only System. I'll always be glad that I participated in the Mike Ferry program, BUT,  you have to determine, what is your style and comfort level for working with your business?  Whoever or whatever it is, I highly recommend a coach until you feel you can make a go at it, but then even refresher courses are good, and I get those on line from numerous resources.

Who Needs Coaching?

I maintain that if one read's the right stuff, think about how you can be better, and practice one doesn't need a coach -- A psychologist, maybe, but not a coach.

Hmmmmm - you be a voice in the wilderness, me thinks.

Apply that line of thinking to any, ANY business, profession, arena and you are gonna be in the hugest of huge minorities.

Now, that's not to say that you cannot achieve a certain level without a coach; obviously, you can. What if you want to go further?

Accountability. Interpretation. Organization.

When I paid for coaching with Mike Ferry, my income jumped and stayed up a level. When I paid for coaching with Craig Proctor, my income jumped to a different level and stayed there. When I paid for coaching with Howard Brinton, my income jumped to an even different level, and stayed there.

Now, I have an awesome coach who is taking me to the next higher level, and I am going to be moving on to an even higher level with the coaching program I will join in 2007. My dream for 2008 is to be coached personally by Zig Ziglar (currently US$7,500 a month).

My coaching has never cost me less than US$1250 a month, currently costs me US$2000 a month and in 2007, if I get accepted into the program I want in to, it will cost me US$50,000 +/- for the year. It's an investment in myself and in my business. There is absolutely no way to become a MASTER of some things one one's own. BTW, I am no longer involved in real estate coaching - it is all on a much higher level of business and leadership development and my plan for 2007 is to be in John Maxwell's Coaching program.
