Finding The Right Coach
Posted: 9:29 AM, Sep. 13, 2006

I am looking for a real estate/business coach. I would like recommendations. Have been talking with Corcoran Group from California. Please let me know if you have had any experience with them or others that you would recommend. I have to sign a year
contract so I can't afford to make a mistake.

Thanks

There are different kinds of coaching. Do you want a coach that will just "keep you on track"? That is to say, call you every week or every month and discuss what you have done in that period regarding numbers of contacts, face to face meetings, listing appointments etc. This is what is (or at least was) provided by the Mike Ferry organization at a not inconsiderable cost but if this is all you need, I would suggest you team up with somebody in your office who also needs this kind of "motivation" as an Accountability Partner. I know it works for some.

Another type of coaching is more related to advising you what to do to get more business, taking your personal skills and experience into consideration. More of a mentoring role. Here, in my opinion, you want somebody who is active in the business (so they appreciate the current market) and successful. Somebody who wants to "give back". These are not so easy to find but I do think Tom Ferry's company, Success Strategies (www.yourcoach.com) has some excellent coaches who work in this way.
Again, at a not inconsiderable cost.

Finally, I think you will find that regular participation in RealTalk can be as valuable (possibly more valuable) as signing up with a coaching organization. Good luck whichever way you go. But beware - there are some companies out there who offer coaching services who you should steer well clear of.

Bad Experience With Coaching Institute
Posted: 3:05 PM, Jun. 2, 2006

I would like to see if Anyone Has Experienced a Coaching Program Scam? I enrolled into a coaching program, offered at a seminar (surprisingly, with FREC's approval for CE credits). The presenters delivered powerful show and great presentation, and I enrolled in their program, because I was much too busy to sync everything I was using together. I signed a non-refundable agreement with "The Coaching Institute", which is actually the name of the company, out of Utah.

It never crossed my mind that these people would not have the knowledge to assist me, so far every class I had taken has been great: CRS, The Institute of Luxury Home Marketing, etc. My combined knowledge in Marketing and Technology to my surprise was by far greater then theirs, and it turned out that instead of them coaching me, their coaches had a lot of catching up to do. Not only that they were not up to par, but they were rude and manner less. I have written certified letters to the top "honchos" who did not even have the courtesy to reply. Do you have any suggestions?
