• Monday, June 19, 2006 - SUPPORT INNER CITY GARDENING!

The Fremont Community Garden project, formerly known as the Mandella Garden, located at 14th and Q Streets is getting a makeover.   This wonderful community garden is an ADA accessible organic garden in the Fremont Mews Community that needs to raise $40,000 to complete the proposed project.

On Saturday June 24th a fundraiser is being held at the Capital Athletic Club to benefit the garden.  Party starts at 7p.m. There will be plenty of local leaders (including Vice Mayor Rob Fong), community activists and lovers of fresh fruits and veggies will be on hand to make this a fun event.

The event is receiving support from nine notable local wineries, eight downtown restaurants, 18 local artists who are providing art for the auction and many other benevolent businesses who are providing raffle items.  In addition, there will be live music performed by Baby Grand.

Tickets are available for just $25 in advance and $35 at the door.  Advance tickets may be purchased at the Capital Area Development Agency (CADA) located at 14th and P Streets.

This is sure to be great fun and all for a great cause...the revitalization of our  Fremont Community Garden.  See you Saturday!

• Wednesday, June 7, 2006 - CALIFORNIA REALTORS PROMOTING HIGHER STANDARDS

Seems everyone I meet knows someone, or is related to someone, in real estate.  Well, the simple truth is that in the past five years the number of real estate licensees in California has nearly doubled.  That is why it is important to be certain to work with a REALTOR® - a real estate professional who is a member of the California Association of REALTORS® and is held to the highest ethical standards in the industry.

The California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) is sponsoring two important bills before the California State Legislature this year to further ensure the State of California promotes the highest standards of professionalism and supervision by brokers who can truly be mentors, counselors and leaders for their agents.  During the mid-year legislative update June 7-9 in Sacramento for C.A.R. members C.A.R. members are participating in meetings with legislators to promote C.A.R. sponsored legislation.

Assembly Bill 2429 (Real Estate Licensure) proposes to eliminate the conditional license and, after October 1, 2007, and requires every salesperson applicant to complete all three of their pre-license courses prior to being issued a license.

Assembly Bill 1963 (Real Estate Brokers License) - Given that brokers are mentors for the future generations of REALTORS®, C.A.R. wants to ensure they all have the tools to lead.  Under the current rules provide that any applicant with a four year degree can get a brokers license without experience.  C.A.R. is sponsoring AB1963 to require two years of "general real estate" experience regardless of education.  This bill was authored by Assemblyman Tim Leslie, a former CA real estate broker prior to entering politics.

The California Association of REALTORS® legislative affairs team along with agents and brokers around the state are fighting to help REALTORS® succeed.  C.A.R. is raising the bar so all real estate licensees can become great REALTORS®.

• Thursday, June 1, 2006 - WALKING TOURS IN SACRAMENTO

California State Capitol Buildinga and Grounds

With the longer days and the great weather take a walk on the mild side. In Sacramento we have a terrific opportunity to get some exercise and enjoy some of our incredible historic architecture.  Walking tours of historic Sacramento architecture provide a wonderful opportunity to exercise our minds as well as our bodies.

Brochures for these three great walking tours available from the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, Sacramento Heritage, Inc., the Central Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, or at the Sacramento City Hall.  There are brochures featuring three specific walking tours of the downtown area - the Alkali Flat Neighborhood Tour, the Capitol Tour and the Downtown Tour.
