I heart Craig Owens... like a LOT. // Tuesday, July 3

Craig Owens of Chiodos & Cinematic Sunrise

Craigery Michael Owens.  Oh my god.  I totally love this guy... He's not super hot or anything, but still, I just want to bite his face off!  He's just the voice in two amazing bands: Chiodos (Chee - Oh - Dos, Originally Chiodos Bros., after some dudes who made some terrible looking Killer Clown movie) and Cinematic Sunrise.
I usually have a problem with people who are just 'Lead Singers'.  I don't think they do anything impressive unless they write the lyrics they sing, or weild some sort of instrument.  I am not sure why... but it just bugs me.  Maybe it's because you don't have to sing well, you just have to sing.  Everyone can sing.  Anyone who never learned an instrument can sing.  So when someone is on stage singing a song they didn't write... BFD.
Anyway, I take all of that back in his case.  No one person has full credit for writing any of the songs by either band.  That's neat I guess... Craig plays the voice... but the cool thing is all of these songs sound like they are the same person, or character.  Same energy level and pitch variations in the voice... Hardcore screaming all the way to higher than my squeeky voice can get.

Buy all their albums :)

I Discovered TV on the Radio! // Wednesday, March 28

TV on the Radio : Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes & Return to Cookie Mountain

TV on the Radio : Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes

Okay, so obviously I can't exactly take credit for 'discovering' the band or anything, but I was introduced to their music a few months back by my favorite local radio station FM94.9.  Their newest album, Return to Cookie Mountain, was released late last year and received rave reviews from critics.  It ranked as one of the best albums released in 2006 in many different publications.  This was pretty well deserved if you ask me, I am just curious about why Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes was seemingly unnoticed when it was released.
The single off their most recent album: 'Wolf Like Me' is an awesome amazing song.  When I first heard it, I was so impressed that I purchased two of their three albums from iTunes and I was NOT disappointed.
Anyone who knows me knows that I don't care for purchasing a song or two by one artist or another.  TV on the Radio : Return to Cookie MountainIf a band can't create an entire amazing album, they don't deserve my money.  These are the types of albums that make me glad that I am so stubborn about it.  These are the kinds of albums that get better the louder you play them, the more times you play them.  Every time I get the volume up louder, new noises and voices emerge from the background creating an entirely different mood than you noticed before.   These are the types of albums that stay new, the types of albums you keep returning to.  Go buy at least one of these, and TURN IT UP!!!
So... I guess the band's founding member is finding producing projects for all sorts of other bands... I guess I'll have to check that out too!  Read more about them...

Brand New's Brand New CD // Thursday, December 7

Brand New : The Devil and God Are Raging Inside MeBrand New: The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

I have been a fan of Brand New ever since a friend gave me a copy of their first CD: Your Favorite Weapon.  Back then their music was more perky, more high school.  Everything was about crushes and disappointment.
Fortunately for me, their next album (Deja Entendu) came out just after I fell in love with their music.  If their last album was high school, this album was college and the few years after.  Fucked up shit happened, drugs, death, alcohol... This album gained them some recognition in the music world, I remember the track 'The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows' getting play on the radio and MTV.  Their fan's favorite was 'Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades', an amazing song about a boy getting raped.
Now they bring us 'The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me'.  Amazing.  This album brings us a whole different mood.  It is so pensive, and sad.  Upon my first listen to the CD, I was almost confused... where did my upbeat music go?  But then I heard it again, and again, and I love this music more every time I listen to it.  The lyrics are more poetic than ever.  This is art.
AP Magazine went ahead and called them "America's Radiohead" once this little gem came out.  I think that this is like comparing apples to oranges... but it's still amazing.  Jesse, the lead singer/guitarist/song writer, spent a lot of time on this one.  The lyrics are introspective and contemplative.  They let the instruments play a bigger role than they have before, this is the first album in which I have heard them 'jam'.  So anyway, I love it, go buy it.... because I told you to.  Read more about them...
