Nov. 11, 2008 - BUDDY CAGE (on his 1st show) Thanks, Buddy!

Fox Theater, Atlanta, GA! Yeah. Waited on the tarmac at SFO for Garcia to show up on the plane out - I had invited him to play as two steels with me. He missed the flight (on purpose) and caught the next one to be there to hear our first set. Crazy? Yeah, like a fox,    I asked him about it after our set, he said he just couldn't bear to play dogshit all over what I was doing. I allowed that was never gonna happen - I would create space where he would sound better (than he was ). But he chuckled and said, "No fucking way, man - you guys did great without me!!"    [there's an incredible story that tags at the hotel after that gig]   On that tour (our inaugural, with me) we managed to hit San Antonio where I got right down to the Lucchese Boot Company [see the Powerglide album insert art] on recommendation from Geo. Hamilton IV with whom I had done an RCA session a couple months before.   We also played (ended) at Pauley Pavillion, UCLA whereupon the crew decided I was getting to stiff and needed some adjustment - they dosed me! And YOU know the snooty bitches at UCLA don't ya, Rick?   After our set (rippin' tripping) I wandered down to the lower bays which housed all the limos. One driver checked me out and said, "You want to go anywhere? I'm paid for the night." Well - somethin' to do...I said Sure, take me down Santa Monica Blvd. I got out at Dan Tana's and sent the driver back, I just wanted to 'feel' the facade tiles for memory/sensory overload.   Completely peaking, I was able to flag down a gypsy cab on SMB (how often does THAT happen, Rick? In L.A.?   I got back to Pauley in time to hear/witness the GD playing their last string. A-h-h-h-h!!! bc                    Thanks Buddy for sharing your awesome talent with the world!
